A while ago, I’m sure I read on here a few scare stories from the 'remainiacs' that we'll need an 'international' driving permit and 'green card' insurance if we wanted to travel to 'Europe' by car. Guess what - we don’t!

Thank god for that. The last three weeks I've been driving all over the North of Spain. We started Asturias then Cantabria, País Vasco, back to Galicia then Asturias again to fly to Tenerife, where I am now.
I had a PCR test this morning and if it is clear, I'll be back in Edinburgh on Monday

We have a fly-ride to Malaga moved from last year to this year but it wouldn’t surprise me if that was cancelled again.

Except they werent scare stories.

You need a Green Card up to and including tomorrow, 01/08/21.

And you might need an IDP depending on which European country you are driving in and what sort of UK licence you have.

What motive did you have for posting this, given that its wrong?

And why quote marks around international, green card, and Europe?

They wont be affecting us so they were scare stories.
None of this Brexit malarkey is going to affect us forever. Brexit is a long game and all remainers seem to bring up are short term losses. Just like investments really - you just have to bide your time……
Splitting hairs, Captain, splitting hairs!

How could it possibly have been a scare story at the time when at the time it was true?

Ever the defence of the slapdash and the careless who say things which are wrong because they CBA to find out the truth and dont care about it anyway.

A while ago, when you read that, the bit about the Green Card WAS TRUE.

Dont make yourself look stupid by trying to claim that because it is no longer true after 02/08/21 it wasnt true before then.

And IDPs may be required - it really does depend on where you want to drive in Europe and what sort of UK licence you have - that is not a scare story, and good luck to anyone who has the misfortune to be stopped in the wrong combination of country and licence type and tries to get out of it by telling the policeman that he is splitting hairs.

Is that the best thing that a quitter can come up with, crowing that the rules on insurance documents have now changed and trying to deny they were ever there in the first place?

Wow - what a stunning achievement Brexit was, eh?

I left the UK two months ago and have been in Tenerife during most of that time.
I booked a hire car on the internet and picked it up at Gijon. I put my UK licence in and I was never asked for any green card or anything else so going by that I would say that it isn't needed.

Reading my own insurance policy, which arrived just last week, it says no green card is required, I am covered for all of the EU plus several other countries outside Europe. It includes several EU languages.

A while ago, I’m sure I read

That negotiating with EU would be "the easiest deal in history."

"We hold all the cards"

"There will be no documents required to send goods from GB to NI."

Guess what? It wasn't true.

Some claimed that what was talked about would be "Just the start of it" implying it will be here to stay and get worse. Clearly not and we're only 7 months in!

To anyone who is interested.
Number 11. No mention of any international driving
permit.

Guess what. It’s only early days. I told ya, Brexit's a long game. It’ll all work out in the end. You didn’t make all your investments for a profit on day one, did you? So far, against all predictions, we now won’t be troubled with green cards, international driving licences, mobile roaming charges ……..

Might need an international licence in one of the lesser European countries that, frankly, none of us Brits would want to ever drive to or in.
