The 'contract of a century' I believe...

But the question is are these subs to be simply nuclear powered or also nuclear weapon capable?

Context: 2 types of boat, the Boomers (Delivering instant sunshine to the world) and the Hunter-Killers. The latter are what this contract includes. And yes, the hunter killers can be armed with nuclear torpedoes. But probably won't be.

Just to add, they have just as big an intelligence gathering role as sub-killing. Not all weapons go bang.

A few years back we sold a used sub to Canada. You might remember, it was the one that nearly sank when they sailed across the Atlantic on the surface because, apparently, they were a bit scared of submerging. What wasn't so well known was that the sub could never fire any torpedoes, not even when it was launched brand spanking. The weapons system never worked and getting it to work would have cost more than a new sub, so they just left it. And then sold it to the Canadians.

If the latter, doesn't that go against the nuclear proliferation treaty?
Powered, not armed.

Good to see that Ardern immediately came out and said that these subs would not be allowed in their waters.

Yeah, New Zealand's agricultural exports to China have gone through the roof since China's trade sanctions against Australia. Some have suggested she should change her country's name to New Xiland.

I don't understand why you would express such anger publicly? It adds to your humiliation. Its like writing a letter of disappointment to a customer's procurement officer when he tells you, you didn't win the contract bid. These are publications for the trash folder. it seems to me that Australia needed an upgrade and switched strategy.

It's not about the boats though is it?
It's about UK being recognised as a global power far more reliable than the EU. It's about developing and protecting trade in an area likely to be far more important to us than the EU.

There were four in total, Upholder class, later Victoria class, all fraught with problems, I did a job for one of the RCN officers, his wife spent her days chasing spiders out of the house, nuts as a fruitcake

Can fire cruise missiles too

I see China have now made a formal application to join the CPTPP, you couldn't make it up.

You have been so comprehensively brainwashed it’s truly hilarious :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

By the way the EU is by far the most important trade partner we have and will continue to be.

and Brexit has made the UK is far far weaker.

“UK a global power” :D:D yeah that’s why we’ve been going round desperately accepting the most shyte trade deals - cos we a global power :ROFLMAO:

Yes, you couldn’t make up the stupidity of brexers thinking CPTPP is of any great benefit to the UK.

but hey, I know you are desperate to join a trade bloc where we will be a rule taker

Calm down Notch, you sound as angry as a French shipbuilder.

Well its escalating.. France has recalled its ambassadors. No more Ferrero Rocher for President Biden. It will be interesting to see how this pans out, but if any country is acting like a global power when it isn't, its not Britain in this. France has a significant aerospace and defence industrial capability, that just got downsized.

downsized?
Or not expanded?

Britain seems to be acting like a banana republic these days….that’s what happens when right wing populists get voted into power.
