So come on, pick Boris's successor.

There has been talk of fast tracking asylum seekers who are qualified health professionals, doctors especially.
Talk of? Where - at the bus stop?
Yeah, it’ll be easy checking the qualifications and credentials of those fleeing war-torn countries.

If we don't have medical pros with the wit and wisdom to be able to test them quickly and efficiently, we are already tom-tucked.

Covid: Refugee nurses are being fast-tracked into the NHS

If you want to know why the NHS is overloaded, it's not the healthy young workers from overseas you should be looking at.

Have you got a mirror?
I agree. I'm 70 years old, have diabetes and also recently diagnosed with heart problems (I received a pacemaker some weeks ago). However, I have worked until age 60 and I think I deserve 10 or so years of retirement.
On the other hand, apart from some pills every day, that is just about what I cost the NHS on a daily basis. I haven't seen a doctor for ages, as they seem to rely on phone calls, but even then I don't need to see any of them unless something unexpected happens.
Illegal immigrants have done nothing for this country, yet receive immediate medical attention upon arrival, free housing, spending money, etc, etc. They are not given work to do because they are here illegally. Perhaps if Boris or his successor accepted that they are here to stay, they may be required to work. Even then, what would our own fit young people do? They would be undercut by the illegals and find themselves unemployable. If some want to live on benefits, that's fine for them... until the government finds that it is uneconomical and reduces payments. What then?
I believe that we are not only overpopulated, but that the numbers continue to grow unsustainably.

Do you not go for regular check ups for diabetes, I have six monthly blood tests, feet checks, retinal scans, issues of testing kit.

No problem if their qualifications match ours (and they are here legally).
The NHS isn't just short of medical staff. There are thousands of jobs in the NHS, and elsewhere, that Brits won't do. I don't advocate illegal immigration, but I do think we could encourage more immigrants in general. I happen to have several friends who are (legal) immigrants and I can assure you they are highly productive people who make a very good contribution to the economy.

Do you have any comprehension of a subject called "economics"?

Why do we need more people than we can house???

"The way things are going, I'd say we need about half to one million immigrants over the next couple of years. Problem is, where would they live?"

Highlighted for you. To make it easier to understand.

The age card is pushed too hard and in the wrong way at times.
People need to listen more carefully. Age figures a lot more in blocking beds as rather old people may need care when they are released and that is not always available. Aspects like same day anaesthetics have altered the time people need to stay in hospital. Rather than spending 2 days in as they used to for even minor opperations they go home on the same day as recover from them sooner. The whole thing is now geared into getting people out asap. That should mean less beds are needed and helps with population growth and an increasing range of treatments.

Age also figures in treatments - as age increases people have less chance of surviving them. That can rule some out. An uncle of mine died due to this. A fracture and had to be put out to fix it. No choice on that. He failed to recover from the anaesthetic and that is what killed him.

I agree, but what happens then to our own people who won't do this work?
Obviously, if we stopped giving unemployment benefit to those who are capable of working but refuse to do so, that might just change their minds. Of course, many don't worry and enter a life of crime which is easier than signing on and more remunerative!

There is a risk the "wrong" leader will be elected, shades of Cameron and the turmoil that followed.

Blup
