Why should some owners have to sell their properties at a discount and not others?
i dont know you tell me and while your at it tell us what would happen to the housing market and who would fill the void left by private owners not entering and leaving it

I didn't make comment specifically about immigration but very much about the total planet wide population growth. Whilst some people say the indigenous population is not growing I'm not convinced on that point.
What it does need is the The Powers That Be - Heads of government, Religious Leaders and others who lead to recognise the fact that the worlds human population is too big for the planet to cope. Those TPTB people should not praise big families but rather make those parents feel ashamed for doing such.
As much as it goes against a lot of old peoples instincts, aid to improve the education of the countries that migrants are coming from that is one of the best ways to improve everyones lot. We see it where better health care and knowledge is available that the fecundity of a people reduces.
I know it isn't an easy answer to implement but I believe it is the only solution to many of the problems facing todays world. But if something isn't done soon then we, the human race, will be regressing rather than progressing.

but you are right the worlds human population is not sustainable all the time 3rd world countries continue to have large growth rates
good luck with that whilst we have right wing governments desperately trying to cut foreign aid

the main aim of the World Economic Forum is to tackle global poverty as it recognises the problem is wealth is unevenly distributed and capitalism just doesnt work.

Lets just walk this idea of yours through a little...
Council/Social Housing
- Points based system geared towards the most needy being prioritised
- Rents kept low or subsidised.
- Often long term or life long
Private Rental sector
- Rents based on Market forces
- No means testing
- Typically short term
Subsidised Private Rental
- Council Subsidises rent.
- Rent is low in exchange for guarantee
Then lets look at this "renters paying the mortgage" claim
take a £245k flat, with a £950-1100 a month rent
with a 10k deposit, the monthly mortgage is around £1,500 on top of that I have maintenance, ground rent, building insurance, landlords insurance and any costs for repairs. Thats another £200 per month.
Explain how the tenant is paying the mortgage?

Mortgage, or your own money.
You want it back, with a value increase.
If you don't think renters should be able to buy it from you, especially at a subsidised price why should councils have to sell off OUR housing stock.
It has to work both ways. Either for, or against

And those renters who can't get social housing areoften using our benefit money to pay those rents

The council could have houses if it wasn't all sold off and unable to use the money to build more
Perhaps you could provide evidence.
Overall, the world average birthrate is 2.3 kids per woman. Replacement rate would be 2.1, so it rising slightly, and projected to level off before the end of the century to about 11billion.
This is sustainable, and even if we aggressively went for fewer births per head through education etc, it still wouldn't stop population growth for a long time, as people are living longer through better health care.
The powers that be are engaging in education in these countries. Its a slow process to get to everyone though.
Population is still a non-issue in the big scheme of things.
Consumerism however is a big issue to address, and the economic growth associated with it.
would you care to link me into where i have said selling council houses off was right ?
After the tenant pays rent for 25 years:
1) the landlord has an asset value of a house
