I think the day one rights will make SME's very, very cautious about who they take on and may hinder growth in that sector.
A lot depends on whether there will be an appeal to an industrial tribunal, I suspect claims relating to discrimination will be allowed. The sensible approach is to have a minimum employee limit before the new rules kick in

It's not an attack. You clearly know nothing about employment law, nobody expects you to be an expert, but unless you've ever had to get rid of an underperforming worker, you have no idea of the stress it puts on a person to put them through a process that is not in their interests.

one thing to like about Labour - they don't mind a U-turn when they get it wrong. Even the Unions thought the proposals would cost jobs.

My point is that you can still dismiss people, as before, even with the minor changes proposed. You said yourself, this morning, the 9 month limit was workable. That's it, nothing else, I am saying that Labour's possible proposals will have minimal effect on current processes. I need to be an expert in employment law to recognise it?

You have also made a fool of yourself twice now on what the actual proposals are. First time I called you out on presuming headlines would be the final law wording, and now you say it has been kicked in to the long grass anyway!

You might be better better waiting for the actual legislation next time.
