They aren't a thing. The MET office have standards for all weather stations, facing north etc. It's also why record temps take a long time to verify, undue influences are checked.

I would be interested to hear what the Met Office have to say about that. Are we sure the exact location shown on the sceptics websites is correct. If it is a potential problem, there seems to be plenty of green areas they could have used instead on the base.

well that is part of my point-- google the hottest recorded and it comes up with Coningsby no mention of raf Coningsby literally acers of tarmac and concrete even if the temp station is on the grass it will still be influenced by the concrete heat island effect - feel scammed yet?

I'm as vulnerable to extremes of heat as the next bloke, having had a cancerous growth removed from my snozz. I also work outdoors a lot, so I applaud the good folk down at the Met Office when they put out extreme weather warnings.

Using red to indicate regional extremes of heat is logical, don't you think?

Aveatry please could you talk us through the “urban heat island effect” on these weather station locations…..like St James Park which recorded a temp of 40.2c just 0.1c less than than the “urban heat island” temps you don’t like at Coninsbury.

By the way your argument falls flat on its face because Coninsby weather station has been recording measurements since 1961, so any claimed “urban heat island” has been in the temperature recordings for over 60 years, during which time temps have gone up

It's all about personal preference, I suppose. Modern diesels are fast and brutally effective, but for me they just aren't nice to drive, especially at speed on a country road. I suppose it depends on what you want from driving. I like all the sensations. I never have the radio on when I am driving for fun on a country road. I have always loved the sound and feel and response of a naturally aspirated petrol engine. Diesels sound awful and they are just not enjoyable to rev.

Sounds like you gave up on diesels in the 90’s!
