Climate Change

Even Bill gates thinks humanity’s demise been over egged, - like I said people are becoming more and more cynical the more its catastrophized - even Bill's had enough of the BS :ROFLMAO:

When you have benefitted to the tune of billions off the back of a large human population, you will always be cautious about what you say about humanity.
Perhaps Bill needs an income?

Said on the news today that Amazon delivery packaging ( card board) is equivalent to 85,000 trees being cut down every day

Ironic they call themselves Amazon :giggle:

Scary viruses are carried around by bats. If they ever mutate enough to get humans, they'll be very infectious and very high mortality. In a lab near you now

To be fair, forests are being grown now just for production of paper. Around 90% of paper comes from those crops. I saw containerloads of crushed pines, and chipped wood in Oz, destined for Japan.
They're constantly replaced. Eucaluptus is about 7 years, pine, spruce, birch are longer, up to about 25. It IS a pity they're often introduced species, so not part of the local biosphere or its diversity. Eucalyptus in particular, drains the soil so nothing else grows.

In the EU and US, about 70% of cardboard and paper packaging is recycled.
The unsustainable bit can be the water abstracted from ancient aquifers (deep ground water). When that's gone, it's gone.
In the murrican midwest they're making paper, growing crops and everything else, with 10,000+ year old water, which isn't going to be replaced.
They'll get severely depleted soon. One I asked about that I know of, the huge Ogalama aquifer, in 20-50 years. Locally it'll be way before that, about 5 years.

I used ChatGpt for some of the numbers there, but I'd had to learn A level Env Sci to help someone with it so knew the rest.. That's where I find AI good, If you know some of the basics, you can stitch it together for the picture where you're interested.

Even Borris says the rush to decarbonise had made electricity too expensive. Just what I have been saying constantly on here.
first Bill - now Borris agreeing with me.
Even Boris, Boris who didn't give a flying **** when he was in power?

He talked about it a lot but didn't actually do anything. He just set targets for other governments to manage and made token efforts that went nowhere.

Now he's just pandering to the right wing lecture circuit where he makes his money.
