the confusion arises because naturally we confuse the cause of forward motion ie traction.

Spot on, if you were to put a car on the conveyor, it would not move , because it is DRIVEN by its wheels.

To put it simply, a jet propels itself through the air, not its wheels.

Thats is the point, until the plane is traveling at its air speed it can't get off the ground. To do that it needs a land speed in excess of 85 knots

According to you, if a plane came into land on this conveyor, the moment the wheels touched the conveyor,
the plane would have to stop INSTANTLY, because it can,t go forward.............. :rolleyes:

Thats how gliders work :LOL:

There's several ways to get them in the sky, and all require a land speed, once they're in the air they rely on thermal currents to give them lift.
