I know they do. I was just pointing out the absurdity of transam's argument...
I suspect the 30 limit is to improve quality of life for local residents.
If anything speed limits should be reduced to save fuel and reduce pollution, the higher the speed the lower the mpg.Motorway driving at 70mph is plain boring and drivers get distracted.
In 40 odd years driving i've never seen a pedestrian on motorway, but i've seen plenty of drivers getting distracted because 70mph is too slow.
Some motorways now have 5 wide lanes and at times are deserted.
You can see a mile ahead, but must stick to 70mph.
Plain stupid.
In the old days with brakes half powerful than that of modern cars I've safety driven double that speed for long journeys.
Nowadays I don't even go out of my county so boring driving has become.
I do agree to the 30mph limit in urban areas though.
That's plenty.
The moron wrote that obviously does not understand that a burst of excitement and adrenaline will inevitably be followed by an even more mind numbing, (energy sapped) low. There are few motorways where sustained law breaking speed is possible.I'm also thinking the argument of; I need to drive fast or I will get bored
per vehicle mile travelled HGVs are the least likely vehicle to be involved in an accident, and their speed is limited to 56mph.The moron wrote that obviously does not understand that a burst of excitement and adrenaline will inevitably be followed by an even more mind numbing, (energy sapped) low. And considering that a lot of motorway journeys are for long durations, it's probably the stupidest reason for going fast you could possibly fathom.
Biggest bollocx on this thread.speed limits should be reduced to save fuel and reduce pollution, the higher the speed the lower the mpg.
People still manage to be 3foot behind the next vehicle at 70mph...gross stupidity...If you are so bored and distracted at 70mph you should not be driving.Motorway driving at 70mph is plain boring and drivers get distracted.

Yes...by you...speed limits are for safety not fuel economyBiggest bollocx on this thread.
Driving at 30mph uses a lot more fuel than 50mph for example.
Agreed .....Utter brain dead thinking.I'm also thinking the argument of; I need to drive fast or I will get bored and have a petulant crash
Every body does ...Riding bicycle or motorbike becomes unconscious thought to some extent..otherwise you could not do itI take in bends without thinking about it
Why...manycars do not pay it...And as said not been ring fenced tax since 30sPlus they should pay road tax
Munroist said that the lower the speed, the better the fuel economy and pollution.Yes...by you...speed limits are for safety not fuel economy
How many years have you been in lockdown???Why...manycars do not pay it...
IMO they should be compulsary for 12 months before you can have a motor vehicle...Prove you have done loads of cycling in traffic before been given a carImo push bikes should be banned off the road
Jonnyboy...Are you in another world...many cars are zero rated for car tax...And as said...not a ring fenced tax anymore anyway....How many years have you been in lockdown???
Nowadays as soon as road tax expires you get a penalty and if your car is parked at the registered address, a clamp with £1000 release fee.
To avoid road tax you would need to drive someone else's car but they'll be fined, or a sorn car which will alert the anpr of the first police car you cross.
