Do you believe that ESP exists? Do you believe that animals have ESP?

Our dog has suddenly started to react and bark to a particular ad on TV

What channel is the ad on?

I'm only asking because your dog has absolutely zero interest in what's on TV other than something which might trigger it. Advertisers using subliminal tactics to 'trigger' a response (which was often subconscious) was banned many years ago. Yet it does seem to be making a comeback.

A previous dog we had did watch the screen and always took an interest in any sheep on screen. The Specsavers ad, where the farmer was sheering sheep and went on to sheer his border collie, used to drive her wild. All of our dogs have been BC's.
That's a good advert though

I used to work irregular hours and arrive home unpredictably. That same dog would always get exited when I was nearing home.....

I would give a single ring on the landline 10 minutes prior to my arrival, as a signal for my partner to open the drive gates - the dog learned to associate the single ring, with my imminent arrival :)

I think it's widely believed amongst dog breeding and dog experts that BCs are one of the most intelligent dogs.
Surely Harry you've come across some unexplainable event which could only be explained through ESP? Eg. the dog suddenly getting excited a few minutes before the phone rings or you suddenly think of cousin Elma who you've not heard from in five years and then she phones you out of the blue in the next five minutes?

I am not sure, the adverts pass me by. I only spot the end of the ad because she barks each time it is on - I look up and see the dog on TV.

She has a phone phobia - anyone walking past the our drive gates on the phone, she barks at them, then runs away. If the landline, mobile, or even a phone rings on TV, she runs away up the stairs.

Yes I remember learning about the basics of subliminal tactics and they've got some fairly shady practices

Nothing at all springs to mind, certainly not ESP, never really seen anything without a perfectly rational explanation - except for once. I have only ever had one very weird event, which still puzzles me to this day....

In my youth, my favourite place to holiday in the summer was Cornwall and always camping. I progressed from hitch-hiking alone down there, to going on a motorbike, to eventually driving down in my car. More often than not, I would break the journey over-night, having set off from work. This particular time I was driving my Triumph Dolomite, got as far as Dartmoor in the early hours, so decided to pull over for the night and sleep in the car. In the process of settling down, I accidentally caught the horn button. The entire windscreen lit up bright blue at the sound of the horn, I tried it several more times and saw the same effect - whilst ever the horn was pressed, there was a quite bright blue glow over the entire screen. Just a perfectly ordinary toughened glass screen, but I have never been able to work out why it might light up in that way. I tried the same thing subsequent nights whilst parked and whilst actually driving, but zilch.

That is interesting. The fact you've never forgotten it serves to show it was something unexplainable.

How is it that dogs and cats frequently have been documented getting excited about someone coming miles before they arrive?
Our dog goes and sits by the front door when I come home at 5.00 every night. I don’t know how she does it.

Aliens you had disturbed with the sound of your horn were telling you to shut up,

There is a phenomenon known as Chromesthesia a type of synesthesia where sounds affect the colours in the brain's image of things the person is looking at.

I had a weird experience, but it was on Exmoor.
Driving during the night, and the fog was so thick, you had to drive really slowly. I remarked to my passenger that we'd pull in and take a rest at the next layby, due to the fog, as we were making such little headway.
The next layby we arrived at was full of other cars, assumingly pulled in for the same reason.
So we carried on. About ten metres past the layby, the fog had totally disappeared and we could carry on as normal.
I thought about going back and telling all the other motorists that the fog had cleared just a few meters up the road.
Then I thought, there was no where for me to park, while I told them, and I didn't fancy walking down a line of parked cars knocking on windows. And they might have thought it was a scam to create a space for myself.
And just to keep my comment on topic, scamming would be alien to my nature.

Or some other reason, nudge nudge

Dogs are great. In fact if you want to find out who loves you more - your dog or your wife/girlfriend, just lock them in your car boot for an hour and then see which one is happy to see you when you let them out.
