Bame, Obesity: Is it Diet why people are dying.

So if I move to china, how long before I can call myself a China-man?
If I have children there will they be Chinese?

I doubt it.
They may be able to have a Chinese passport but I don't think they will actually be Chinese.

Re the Mbam community, I have always seen them as being more community/family biased, they have lager families in the same household and interact together more - which is IMO normally a good thing however now it's a bad thing and their mixing together could be driving the higher numbers.
One example is prayer, whilst there may have been government instructions not to pray together (and mosques claim to now be closed) - there has been multiple large gatherings for them to pray together or attend funerals because this is what their culture/religion (which plays a big part in their culture) tells them to do.

Being overweight may affect how well you are able to fight off the virus and it may affect you more. it is known that certain ill effects come with being obese, greater likelyhood to being diabetic, cardiovascular disease etc. and these make you more likely to suffer from the effects of the virus.
So yes, IMO obesity does have it's part to play in your being affected but as weight is likely not a factor recorded upon death then it would be hard to tell.

Not that it wills top anyone having a bash at us fatties. :)

Yes and no.

They may be able to have a Chinese passport
Nationality - they will be Chinese.

but I don't think they will actually be Chinese.
Racial group - obviously not.

You are using Chinese to mean two different things.
It's like saying "If I have children in Kenya will they be black?". Obviously not but they will be Kenyan.

English and Kenyan do not also indicate a racial type in the way Chinese does.[/quote]

Look at it another way.

Say both lots of your grandparents went to China and 'assimilated' fully with language and customs.

Would your children be English?

That is interesting.

If they chose not to learn the language and embrace the customs and culture then would not be considered Chinese. By themselves or anybody else.

Most probably in line with my thinking.

FT

"After taking account of age and other socio-economic factors, and the general health of those surveyed, the risk of death from coronavirus for black, Bangladeshi and Pakistani ethnicities was still 1.9 times higher than for whites. The residual risk is believed to reflect occupations that result in greater exposure to the virus. “Some ethnic groups may be over-represented in public-facing occupations and may, therefore, be more likely to be infected by Covid-19,” the ONS said.

OK so the upshot is that ethnic groups have a higher likely hood, compared to their percentage of the population of being affected by this.

It still does not mean that there are more of them being affected than those that are considered white - who actually do represent the higher numbers.
So the whole thing is IMO just someone trying to push an agenda of their own in the media rather than it actually being something that is aimed at ethnic minorities, MBAM or whatever you want to call them.

The virus does not care who it kills, it just kills.
By then I don't think your ethnicity matters.

How does one pronounce "BAME"? I don't know, because I don't watch the BBC.

Does it rhyme with "name"?

I prefer to pronounce it "barmy" ("rhymes with army").

It does. I have known a number of people with various colours and actually wonder if some will like the label. On the other hand it may bond them together after a fashion as all face a certain amount of prejudice from time to time.

Therefore other age groups must show a lower figure.
.
Yes, from the figures they are working from ONS.Gov LINK (and assuming a UK Chinese population of 0.7%) then white women over 65 are 2.1x more likely to die from CV than Chinese women from the same age group. And in general UK whites are 1.5x more likely to die from coronavirus than UK Chinese.

Beeb don't seem to be highlighting this stat! Which is a pity since we may be able to learn from it - For instance are UK chinese more likely to be wearing face masks? if so then may be we should. Lets learn from them, they are a wise thoughtful law-abiding and hardworking people.

Yes they have been wearing masks since it started. ;) B'ham has so many eastern asians fly in at night by microlights 3 a time in fleets of 100+ we see loads of them walking about. I've been meaning to tell Farage about as the same must be going on along the south coast and much of southern england.

There are several larger shopping centres around here and my wife mentioned that all she saw were wearing masks. They are not an uncommon sight. :( She's a bit upset since lock down as can't realistically visit them now.

There is increased mask use in other countries. Given directions about use it looks very much like it's to limit spread not prevent some one from catching it especially indoors. Spain are giving them to people. Considering that people can spread it and leave it on things simply by talking they make rather a lot of sense.
