I asked a question, why do black people refer to themselves as black Britons and not black English
Is it because some people regard being English as an ethnic identity based on race and ancestry and this is the reason why black people refer to themselves as black British.

I've been meaning to tell Farage about as the same must be going on along the south coast and much of southern england.
There are several larger shopping centres around here and my wife mentioned that all she saw were wearing masks. They are not an uncommon sight.She's a bit upset since lock down as can't realistically visit them now.
There is increased mask use in other countries. Given directions about use it looks very much like it's to limit spread not prevent some one from catching it especially indoors. Spain are giving them to people. Considering that people can spread it and leave it on things simply by talking they make rather a lot of sense.
But getting back to the face masks, if UK chinese are up to half as likely to catch this virus then we are, and they are by far the most likely ethnic group in the UK to be wearing face masks, then may be we should to.

By the way I am not qualified to endorse this definition either way , my original question was why according to the last UK census do people From a BAME background overwhelmingly describe themselves as British rather than English.
I postulated that this could be because they perceived the term British as a nationality rather than an ethnic identity.
Although if I had to choose, I would probably subscribe to your definition of English.

Yes, but the tribes coalesced into one people over a thousand years ago. There were no significant additions to that "one people" during that thousand years until recently, when Tony Blair and his crew decided to spoil it.
