Tonight, Conservative MPs voted against putting into law the implementation of the Grenfell Inquiry Phase recommendations.

A shameful deriliction of duty.

The recommendations rejected by the Tories include:

  • Creating national guidelines for carrying out partial or total evacuations of high-rise buildings during emergencies
  • Urgent inspections of fire doors contained in all multi-residential buildings
  • A legal requirement for the owners or managers of multi-residential buildings to check fire doors at least every three months to ensure they are working effectively
  • A legal requirement for the owners or managers of high rise buildings to provide details of external walls and the materials used to the local fire service, and inform them of any changes
  • A legal requirement for the owners or managers of high-rise buildings to provide paper and electronic versions of building plans to local fire services
  • A legal requirement to ensure all high-rise buildings have a premises information box which includes a copy of floor plans
  • Regular inspections of lifts required for use by firefighters and the mechanism that allows them to take control of it
Following the publication of the recommendations in October 2019, the Tory Housing Secretary, James Brokenshire, promised to implement them “in full” and “without delay”.

Unsurprisingly, tonight’s latest u-turn by Boris Johnson’s government has caused consternation

"Rydon knew they were in ‘pole position’ to win the tender for the refurbishment of Grenfell Tower, before the formal tender process had ended, according to evidence given to the inquiry.

The Refurbishment Manager agreed in his evidence that Rydon had personal and private access to staff at the Tenant Management Organisation.

The tender document gave inaccurate information in the CVs of key staff. Rydon passed on incorrect figures to the TMO about potential savings from changing materials.

Two site managers working on the refurbishment said that they had not checked the fire safety of the materials used to clad the exterior.

One site manager, Daniel Osgood, was described by a senior colleague as “a chancer” who tried to do as little work as possible.

Another site manager gave evidence about the installation of the windows, which along with the cladding played a significant role in the spread of flame on the night of the fire.

Amongst the 317 Conservative MPs to vote against the amendment was Felicity Buchan, the MP for Kensington – the constituency where Grenfell Tower is situated.

does it surprize you what they say
they say what people want to hear until action costs money then they backtrack or claim its world beating or "ring fenced care"as a pure lie then move on with the latest fiction or non truth to try and give a positive light to a disaster unfolding more and more as pr is far more important than dealing with the situation in an honest and fair way
 
They would've had the money, only they gave it away in bogus contracts to their mates.


But Brexiteers are too busy shouting " sovoereignty" to notice.
 
Are they putting in to law prosecution of the illegals, freeloaders and 5-star hotel lodgers who have actually profited from Grenfell whilst feigning the victim?

BTW, John boy, despite your faux-alarm and shame casting much of the outcome of the enquiry has been and is getting put in to changes of legislation and guidelines, and a lot of it is already part of existing regulation and practice but has not always been implemented.

You can sleep easy now ... except for the freeloaders bit - that is still on-going. Shameful
 
I feel sorry for the many people living in flats that have wall cladding now deemed to be a fire risk. When a leaseholder tries to sell they get an awful shock when the valuation comes back as zero

Lease holds are a scam full stop, as most people don't realise they are just renting.

I highly doubt a lease with "at risk" cladding are being valued at zero. There aren't many still left to do based on the official stats.

If they aren't happy, they could club together, collective enfranchise to ditch the landlord, extend their leases and borrow against the valuation to fund the work. I also think they can get grants too.

Falsifying documents, etc in support of an application is illegal. But that is often illegal in non-immigration issues.

"The company which installed cladding blamed for fuelling the Grenfell Tower fire has told an inquiry into the blaze that it did not check the design met fire safety requirements.

Ray Bailey, director of Harley Facades, said the firm relied on architects and building control officers to make sure designs were safe.

He accused supplier Celotex of misleading his firm about its safety.

The fire safety consultation is due to close on 12 October.

The fire at the west London tower block killed 72 people in 2017.


A key question at this stage of the inquiry is how the companies involved allowed highly combustible cladding to be fitted to the outside of the 24-storey tower."
