Not sure how old cell is but it's a Zodion SS4, it's working, but seems to come on too soon in the afternoon and stay on a bit too long in the morning.

The place where it's sited is an east facing wall which gets a reasonable amount of light.

Just wondered if there's any adjustments on these units that can make them a little less sensitive or would it be better just to buy a new unit?

Hmm where's the direction arrow.

I've unplugged the unit from the wall to check if the plastic top could be removed but it seemed pretty solid. Can't say I noticed any arrow on the unit.

If you remove the head (The pointy translucent bit), and look at the socket part of the base. You will see an arrow lablled 'N'

Make sure this arrow is pointing north.

Yes arrow pointing in right direct (north)

Does the head only fit onto the base in one position or can it be moved around?

It's just that we had an elecrtician working on these lights in the summer and I know he removed the head, just wondering if he could have put it back in a different position.

No, the terminals are slightly different sizes to stop the unit being put on incorrectly - otherwise L, Ls and N could get muddled up! When he replaced the unit did he give it about a 20º twist iirc clockwise to locate it?

No, they're keyed, otherwise the pins would not connect with the right terminals.

Well I can't speak for the electrician but I've removed the unit myself a couple of times since his visit to see if there were any adjustments I could make.

On replacing the head I've just pushed it back onto the base without twisting. The cell then seems to go into some sort of test mode with the lights coming on for a couple of minutes.

They switch the outgoing supply on for a couple of minutes when initially powered up. Doesn't exactly do sodium lights much good!

Is this one of those that "educates" itself about brightness levels over 3 or 4 days ? By this I mean it remembers the darkest and brightest and sets a switching level depending on these. If so then turning the power of makes a mess of the settings for a few days.
