Easing of Rules

They have started counting re infections recently. Possibles but now has a permanent place in the weekly reports. Monthly updates I think.

I suspect if all precautions are dropped we will be heading for a similar scenario to the period between lock downs. Low daily death counts but they mount up to significant numbers over time. They expect people to "take responsibility" and "learn to live with covid". This cropped up in the briefs very early on when eventually dropping masks was mentioned. Whitty's response - yes we will eventually but expect some people to carry on wearing them. There has even been a comment that if people wear the same type of mask that they use in hospitals when there is real worry about infection. They do prevent it. These are hard to breath through. It doesn't need much of a mask to prevent people from infecting others and it's easy to pick up covid by touching something an infected person has breathed on. Chilled counters must be wonderful for that.

Holidays are being used to encourage people to get vaccinated.

They are trying to help business but these are now saying how can they work when lots will need to self isolate. Expect some weakening of when people have to self isolate next. Or maybe one obvious precaution may be kept some how or the other.

Seems the triple lock means pension increases should be 8% this year - guess what - they are going to re examine the triple lock. What is clearly need all round is taxation increases and not just purely in the PAYE and VAT areas.

TBH I think we are heading for chaos and long term true herd immunity.

we chose to have a government headed by a man who is ignorant and lazy.

his instinct is not to investigate and prepare, but to let things ride and hope it turns out OK.

Brexit? Ministers? Lockdown? Extramarital affairs? Unwanted pregnancies? Travellers from India?

"The rate of new infections in the UK is above 25,000 a day — much higher than in most European states. No matter. After 18 months of vacillation, swerves and U-turns, Johnson says his new master plan is “irreversible”.

On 19 July virtually all legal curbs on social interaction will be scrapped. The new regime in England (Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland set their own rules) will allow nightclubs to reopen, social distancing to end and uncapped crowds to return to sports grounds and music venues. Face masks will cease to be mandatory and individuals will have to weigh up the risks of attending “superspreader” events.

By the government’s own calculation, the result will be an explosion of infections. Johnson says the daily rate may climb to 50,000 cases by July 19. The health secretary Sajid Javid predicts this could double later in the summer.

The impact will be felt overwhelmingly by the young — the unvaccinated under-18s and the 20-somethings who have had at most one dose. The under-18s alone account for about 20 per cent of the population.

Johnson does not like lockdowns. After failing to get a grip at the outset of the pandemic he has overpromised and underdelivered on restrictions.

Former aide Dominic Cummings says the prime minister once declared he would rather allow bodies to pile up in the streets than tighten legal curbs. Johnson denies using those particular words, but Downing Street insiders say they offer a fair reflection of his mood. He had hoped to scrap the remaining legal restraints last month, but was forced to delay by the virulence of the Delta variant.

Now he has told colleagues that, whatever the cost, he will not reverse himself again.

The result is a leap in the dark driven not by epidemiology nor by careful cost-benefit analysis of the present lockdown, but by prime ministerial temperament reinforced by the noisy demands of like-minded Tory MPs."

Bad news for pensioners
"Downing St vows to stick with pension ‘triple lock’

No 10 insists committed to pledge despite Treasury concerns on potential £4bn cost of uprating retirement payments"

bearing in mind Johnson's record on truth and broken promises, we can reliably expect the triple lock to be dumped.

Yes FFP3 masks seem to be highly effective. Cambridge hospital tried giving staff on Covid-19 wards high grade masks and it dropped their risk of infection to the same as staff with no workplace exposure to Covid-19.

My bad.

How long do you intend being a vaccine coward?
Aww bless...

nosenothing doesn't have the ability of individual thought...

If you want to see a real coward then look in your own mirror!

But how many decades will it take you to dare do that? :)

Wembley and Wimbledon are seen as experiments to see what happens. Pretty obvious outcome I suspect but the end result is debatable - do the vaccines work or don't they. That is really where we are at. Shouldn't take long to find out. Some one did a survey and found a lot more males are carrying the virus currently. It's usually "fairly" even within age groups.

19th July is one week before schools break up for their summer holidays. Must admit I was surprised the 19th wasn't the 25th but infection levels at school and uni ages are very high. Not much sign of them creeping up the age groups yet. Having them all at home should help with that.

35 dropped dead in hospital in the last 24hrs - covid treatment deaths. The numbers are creeping up. No longer any comments about vaccinated or not. There has been no mention of the relative performance of the vaccines that have been used or what effectiveness means. All that has been stated is that the latest mutation is more effective in terms of it's aims.

Festival of speed is going on

they are sold out of tickets

I will be there tomorrow

Festival of speed is going on

I just found out what these events are called

Festival of Speed confirmed as a pilot event
Goodwood is pleased to confirm that the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard will now form part of the Events Research Programme (ERP) as a pilot event. The event will take place as planned from 8 - 11 July.

;)Vaguely similar to the ERG - haven't a clue what the result will be but probably bad for many so lets find out. There is a list of precautions though.

The whole bloody thing is a massive medical experiment...

And yet the lab rats keep coming back for more! (n)

You certainly don't.

You won't have the vaccines due to "risks"

But you don't know what those risks are or if they exist at all.

Not much thought going on eh
