EU PPE procurement scheme

The UK is seeking “something akin to membership” of the EU’s early warning and response system (EWRS), which has played a critical role in coordinating Europe’s response to the coronavirus,

With Europe having been the epicentre of death for CV for weeks, hardly a glowing endorsement for the ewrs.
Besides, why would anyone need a dedicated "early warning system" for this sort of thing anyway, when it was all over the Internet late last year?[/QUOTE]

Its actually a system for Public Health and other health related professional to share and message each other privately about Public Health Issues. They can share private data.

But if it has been used to "coordinate critical responses to the pandemic", shouldn't that thinking be public?

Eventually yes, but initially if you someone is unsure at what has happened and posts to get advice as their own reposnse might be counter productive if they do not know what to do.

If you come across some new pathology - you are going to want to get a second opinion and see if this is an isolated incident or something more widespread

Sadly it is the quitters that are dreaming of a non existent place.

Their cult like ideology doesn't match up to the reality we face.

Countries need to work together, and not go off on a nationalistic journey into oblivion!

Liverpool vs Atletico Madrid - 12 March
Cheltenham Festival - 10 March to 13 March

Maybe if at the time we were heeding warnings instead of putting political ideology before methodology, then perhaps the advice might have been different?

After all, we are being constantly told that we are weeks behind Europe as regards the virus!

There was an Aljazeera program on today about what can be learned from the Asian handling of CV19. Missed most of it but did hear comments from people who live their in respect to the west. Your politics and the fact that they wont listen and have different aims. Probably sums it up really. A lady from Oz returning to one has to wear a tracking bracelet. She sees it as being completely reasonable. Go to Korea and you wont be allowed in unless you download their tracking app.

Looks like it's on again tomorrow so must watch it. Interesting shot of mass temperature testing of crowds.

UK
Low levels of preparedness for just about anything serious even a bad flu even though simulated a pandemic with 30k deaths and also had private talks about what to do if one arrived.
Far to late going into lock down. That is illustrated by several countries and one in particular has been put down to testing. Things aren't that simple.
Probable increase in death rate due to equipment - not just ventilators but not clear on those as some are "better" than others. No idea what that means.
There seems to be a 2 tier treatment plan. Lower numbers would mean all get the same.

Where gov really falls down is plans based on the assumption that it would get here and spread what ever they do. The plan is on the web. They would also be aware that eventual numbers would be difficult to handle. This is probably why some countries locked down earlier even though their capabilities were greater.

The only countries that have definitely kept it significantly down are Asian.

One interesting snippet. Singapore out of lock down. Not enough info really but initially they didn't. People went to work in shifts to keep spacing up. Might be the end of that or something more like our lockdown.

Pictures of Spain going out for exercise - be interesting to see if they get a spike as loads going out at the same time. Masks may be required there from Monday.
