Gas boilers

I prefer cylinders for hot water anyway.

Mate changed his boiler to a combi a couple of years ago, with that change their hot water tank went out of their airing cupboard. They have just put the hotwater tank back in as the changes in the airing cupboard just did not work as well.

Usually if more than 1 bathroom and people obsess over hot water capability

A couple of weeks ago I posted some YouTube links to old tool makers in Sheffield.

A couple of old boys were fork polishers in the 60's - I never thought there could be such a business, but there was .... and they reckoned they were the last.

Anyway it was a massive shift from a declining industry in that town. But with this new shift, it's not just a few towns it's national, so I wonder what work those workers can move on to instead? The motors, batteries, electronics of the new cars and machines are much more reliable so even those will not require any significant work during the product life cycle.

The only hope is that the likes of Hoover and Hotpoint and all the other washing machine makers move into boiler making, and then there will be employment for many repairing constant leaks and breakdowns.

Bloke from BMW

It will. Be 2045 before petrol and diesel cars will be off the road

Will have snuffed it by than

Got a couple of cars hope to build up in the next few years

Hopefully start one next year got the engine and running gear

Corvette will be back on the road soon :)

Transam firebird is on the road ;)

**** the green lobby

it only applies to new build

No

Gas boilers will be or are banned in new build as they are unable to get to efficiency standards

25 million gas boilers will need to be replaced to achieve zero emissions

1 million oil boilers

Dunno about wood burners

Figures from some in the industry suggest that to go to air source or ground source

Could cost in excess of 20 grand per house hold

Go to hydrogen?? And any one with a Combi may well have to convert back to storage cylinders???

Air source will become cheaper, but ground sourced cannot because of all that digging it will need and deep pipe work. Ground source will also need a large area of garden, from which to source the heat, so not applicable to many. Imagine the racket from all those air sourced units running in a street of houses :)

Surely that's got to be better than making an excellent system redundant overnight and possibly putting those that suffer with poverty in further desperation and poverty.

Showed some houses on news being converted from gas ch to ground heat pumps. Said it was costing £15,000 per house. Unless they get grants for the conversion, maybe the poor will just go back to burning wood.
