I don't think Gay Byrne could argue with Stephen Fry's comments. He would have been shot down by being asked to prove it. Having recently lost my mother, who was a staunch catholic, i'm glad she had her faith as it helped her through some very bleak times.

Usually that provokes the response from believers that "God is testing us."

That's a fair point but it's not usually non believers that do the gobbing off is it - it's the other way around. If the church had its way we wouldn't even be looking for an explanation for matter or have looked for the many scientific discoveries made so far. All far too ungodly.
