What do we think?

isn't it about time this sort of thing was prevented?

The last big drought in Africa apparently could have been caused by the rains not being able to shift northwards due to a shift in weather patterns ,to put it bluntly it was basically caused by the smog etc over the UK and Europe.

Another plausible explanation , according to an article in the New Scientist is deforestation may be causing droughts in west Africa, deforestation in Ghana, Nigeria and Cote d'Ivoire.

Either way there is not really anything we can do to prevent it.

No doubt someone is going to come along and blame "Global Warming." The government will no doubt, put up taxes to pay for this "Global Warming." So they can send the money raised to some backward African country.
Biggest problem out there is, is the , seemingly, permanently pregnant women, giving birth to children, they know will die within a few miserable years.
Why on earth they don't teach them some form of birth control, so they only have a few kids that could live to adulthood , I don't know.

Am I the only one thinking a rotten ship should be abandoned to sink?

problem is people in africa use to migrate
but european mission fubar it by creating villages
and other problem is their are too many people in the world

Flip back to Victorian England and you'd see exactly the same thing you are complaining about...They had loads of children back then precisely because many were expected to die...We are lucky now in that we no longer have the same rate of infant mortality, like they still do in Africa - but if we did we would be still breeding at the same rate!...

Surely ellal, we learnt lessons from those dark Victorian times. These people in Africa are not learning lessons from their own recent history are they? Or have they become too dependent upon humanitarian aid??

We learnt the lessons through access to education and medicinal progress..That is denied to them, so they effectively have no other choice..

Your latter point though of course is valid. However, if they constantly need aid, then we also have to look at why we won't pay a fair price for what they can produce...after all, they have to pay 'top dollar' for what we will supply them with!

Usually it is western intervention that causes wars in Africa, thus effecting its economy. We all needed our PS2's , digital watches and computers but we didnt stop to think about the genocide WE were causing in the Congo as a result, after all we were told it wouldn't directly effect us so play continued.

Some of the comments on this thread are nothing more than barbaric and ignorant and shows some true colours. If it were your children who were dying then perhaps you might not be so ignorant. I'd like to see some people on here look into a starving/dying baby's face and tell it it's their fault and they deserve it.

I have to agree .... surely no one can see the pictures and not be moved by them. Or maybe these days some are hardened to it....maybe some people just lack compassion.
No it isn't right that they have so many children, but then neither is it right that while the so called civilised society of the western world lives in comparitive luxury, a child dies every 3 seconds from malaria.

Blame the corrupt government leaders of these African countries, that they fail to provide basic needs for their people such as medical care, housing, food, employment etc, and just be a little more grateful for our own government.

The situation in Africa is not caused by us wanting PS2's or boiling a full kettle when we just want one cup etc.

I am fully aware that is the situation.
But that doesn't have to stop us from contributing to agencies such as Oxfam and Save the Children. Although these agencies cannot change governments....they can at least alleviate some of the suffering.

It should at least make us thankful every day for the life that we have here in the UK.
