How to weatherproof a pre-terminated RJ45 cable? Cable gland that's large enough for plug leaves too much space around cable

The crimped plugs are different for stranded or solid, both crimp equally well on their correct cable.

I have used the universal plugs too with success but they tend to be more expnsive by a big margin... last time I looked was well before covid so this may have changed.

If you drill the hole in the base of the charger housing rather than the side you can gland it with a lump of silicone to stop the spiders.. Water doesn't flow upwards so you're sorted in that regard.

I've successfully used a power line adapter more than once now to adapt the Ethernet for the charger so the network runs via the same cable that powers the charger, reducing the cable count- you just need to cut the adapter open and wire a flying lead onto the power line adapter cos there won't be a 13 amp socket inside the charger case :)
