Only on here do people bitch that not enough people died to warrant lockdown and buggering up the economy. An economy that will bounce back - it already showed signs of it.

You are all forgetting that at the time of lockdown, information on exactly how many deaths and how lethal this virus is wasn't known. What they did see is people fighting for their lives in hospital, lots of em and quickly arriving, as well as this virus behaving in ways never seen before.

So, to bitch that they went into lockdown to save lives is incredibly stupid. To come up with conspiracy theories is also very stupid.

HTF should I know?

I said you haven't been told, you said you knew. HTF am I supposed to know where you learned it?
Which news did you find it on then? You said I hadn't heard of them. Heck you haven't even said who these dissenting voices that I hadn't heard of were.

Is that from the 'virus' or from the 'collateral damage' due to other illnesses not being picked up/treated?

There are approximately 53,000 extra deaths more than normal, since Covid19 began.

This is directly caused by the Pandemic, individual cause of death is irrelevant.

Please read in context, the point being made is that Covid19 caused all these deaths, they would not have occurred otherwise.
Its very hard to give fast and accurate number on deaths, so looking at excess deaths is a pretty good indicator.

Even then people will argue "those people would've dies anyway"

Daily Mail hogwash

look at this comment: "By contrast the 'value' of lives saved is a comparatively small £132billion"
really? £132b is "small"

if govt had sorted out test n trace back in march UK wouldnt be in this mess
It also assumes that the economy would have been fine whilst 500,000 keeled over dead and hospitals shut down due to staff infections.

We're not in lockdown now, so the travel industry must be doing fine.

Not true.
Some died from covid : they are an absolute number.
Some died because of actions and decisions made in reaction to the pandemic.
Different actions and decisions, different number of deaths.

Hmmmm, that is exactly what I said, without Covid 19 non of the excess (over normal ) deaths would have happened.
