The NHS wouldn't have to make cuts if they stopped NHS tourism.

Pass a law that says wherever you come from to the UK you will need private health insurance for the first five years. After that you can join the NHS.

As irritating as it is, I have to say that this sounds a pretty solid idea. The only problem I can see is when someone takes out such a policy, makes an early claim on it then defaults back to their own country leaving the rest of us to pick up the insurance tab through increased premiums on all insurance products that we require.

As the NHS is funded by NI contributions, this must make NI the only insurance policy where you don't need to pay one single premium to get many of the benefits. Whether it's health tourists or benefits for 'asylum seekers', it explains the long waiting lists, and need to ration certain medicines. Completely unfair to those that have paid in for many years, and the road to ruin.
