Britain is capable of making sausages that meet the European quality standard. Just as European countries are capable of making things that meet British standards.

In UK we can currently buy a thing called "Hot Dogs."

They do not meet the quality standards for British sausages, so you will not find the word "sausage" on the label. Nor the word "meat" because they are made of thickened slurry. They are especially popular in the US.

They are a cheap substitute for "Frankfurters" which typically contain around 75% pork meat and are a very superior product.

In the UK, the minimum meat content to be labelled Pork Sausages is 42% (30% for other types of meat sausages), although to be classed as meat, the Pork can contain 30% fat and 25% connective tissue.

Many countries consider this falls short of acceptable standards.

Who can blame them.
 
OK as long as they are cooked or frozen, not allowed as raw or fresh and applies to other forms of “mince” too.
 
Richmond sausages are awful. Filled with soft pink sludge.

They are advertised as if they were a traditional quality brand.
They are indeed, I won't have them in the house much to my mother's request as they are low quality ****e

Yes, I did read that. It didn't occur to me at the time but I would have thought that anything like that would be exported frozen in refrigerated trucks?
 
Support your local butcher. Their sausages are normally streets ahead of the mass produced rubbish. Noticeable to see how little fat there is in the grill pan after cooking butchers' bangers compared to Walls, etc.

And as for hotdogs, my American friend won't touch them. Adamant that any meat in them is all lips and arrs holes.
