Scam ??

Damn right!
When it suits someone they forget everything about workers and their jobs, just to save 5 minutes.
For me, it's about more than just the time saving.

Some people enjoy the act of queuing at the traditional checkout, chatting with the checkout assistant etc.

Some people don't.

I'm in the latter camp. The least amount of strangers I need to interact with day to day the better :)

And yet, you interact with strange strangers on an internet forum...

I queue at traditional checkouts all the time.
We actually tried one today for the first time in since I don't know when. Sainsbury’s in Romford. We were up there picking up some toys for our grandchildren and only had half a dozen items and as there were only three people in front of us with not much shopping, we jumped on the manned checkout queue. Trouble was, the scummer at the front of the queue tried to pay with a forged tenner. They wouldn’t accept it and instead of apologising and getting another tenner out, he doubled down. "They've just given me that from the bank" he was saying. Everyone in the queue rolled their eyes, picked their stuff up off of the belt and went to the self checkouts. Took ages to get through and when I checked, he was still arguing it out with the cashier and the manager but that’s Romford people for you.

I was in Tesco’s a while back when some fruit cake ( girl) had a mental melt down in one of the aisles throwing stuff about
Than on the floor screaming and carrying on

Kin aisle had what I wanted as well not allowed down there bla bla

Should have dragged her out into the car park she can have her tantrum out there

Folk abusing these systems p1sses me off as it could encourage retailers to do away with them. I love self check-out and would hate (and I mean hate) having to start queuing at the check-out again, to have someone chuck my items down the conveyor at 100mph.
That's funny. I hate self checkout and only ever use them only if I absolutely have to.

I'd far rather talk to a human.
