support for the EU surges in Britain

Since borisconi announced his fudged travel plans, UK folk are now planning holidays to Europe in their droves.

But since private insurance doesn't cover anything virus related, so many of those UK folk have realised they need to renew their EHIC cards (which does cover virus related illness) that the EHIC website has crashed.

I wonder how many of those wishing to benefit (for the rest of this year anyway) from the universal European cover that EHIC provides stupidly voted to brexit?

Probably a lot less than all those Europeans that were planning to come here for medical treatment by the end of the year.

EHIC cards are available for Europeans wishing to travel to UK. It covers them for the same kind of cover, as a UK card, paid for by their host country.
How to get an EHIC in France
If you live in France and contribute to the health insurance system (generally with the CPAM) you are entitled to an EHIC. It is free of charge and can be requested online via the Ameli.fr website, or at your local CPAM office at least 15 days before departure; no documents need to be provided.

The EHIC in Germany
The European Health Insurance Card (Europäische Krankenversicherungskarte) allows all legal residents of Germany to benefit from emergency medical treatment and care when temporarily elsewhere in the EEA. All German residents must have health insurance and the EHIC is actually part of the health insurance card (Gesundheitskarte). The EHIC information can be found on the back of the insurance card.

Sadly that's what ignorant quitters fail to get...

An EHIC card merely allows any citizen of any EU/EEA country the same healthcare that is provided to a nation's own citizens.

The UK happens to have a 'free at the point of access' system, whereas some countries have for example a charge to see a GP.

All have to pay the same relative amount.

But again what ignorant quitters also fail to understand is that so called 'health tourism' is a tiny amount of the NHS budget, and most of it is from outside the EU/EEA area...

And this will increase given that whilst immigration from within the EU?EEA has decreased it has risen form outside the bloc...

Quitters continually shoot themselves in the foot.

Unfortunately it appears they are either too stupid to understand the mistake they have made or too arrogant to admit making that mistake!

If you look on the foreign office pages I think you may find that health insurance is needed as well. Not sure if all countries or some.

It's what the Quitters wanted, but sad they dragged the rest of us with them.

Correct which is why insurance is likely to be needed in a number of countries.

:) Must admit I had thought I'd get the same as the UK anywhere in the EU but don't think that is the case.

To which 'nation' is Ellal referring?

The travellers own nation or the nation being visited.

What is the point of the card if it only allows the same as one would get anyway in the visited country?

What is the point of the card for people visiting the UK where they will be treated anyway?
