How come it is still here, then?
because they ended and quarantine and testing havent been operational

The R number is worked out from the number of cases so meaningless.
the concept of the R number is politically useful as a guide

clearly hospital cases are the only way of getting any idea

So - - - previous restrictions didn't work. Can't have it both ways.
yes they did

take first lockdown -social distancing did lower the spread

but it was ended....but there was still background infection in the community

a lack of test / trace / quarantine meant asymptomatic people were spreading unknown

and sooner or later the exponential growth takes up back to where we were

All this is by the by. It everywhere around the world. Each wave gets worse & worse.

no thats an appeal to extremes logical fallacy

a combination of reasonable freedom to allow economy and life to continue
with

mass testing
trace
quarantine
social distancing
restrictions for social contacts like pubs
lockdowns for localised hot spots

its what virologists have been saying all year -you manage it until herd immunity is acquired by vaccinating 60% of the population

I'm fuming, I feel tier 2 restrictions were enough, it's all a load of rubbish.

They can't possibly expect the country to be in the state it's in for another year.

How to destroy an economy 101

You can’t get herd immunity from a constantly mutating virus.

the weird thing is;

I kept hearing back in the summer "there will be a second wave it will last longer than the first...."
and although its what the experts have been saying, a part of me has kept thinking "nah, they are scaremongering it wont come back" -in the summer it had all but disappeared
but here we are

there were mutations recorded in America back in June etc, but my recollection was that the virus is pretty stable and the genetic make up is pretty similar -sufficient for vaccines to still be effective

Ive not seen this latest news about mutations though....
