The government of Japan hasn't imposed multiculturalism on its country.
See my post 141 above. When a government floods its country with foreigners those foreigners then consider the indigenous people racist. It's all the fault of irresponsible governments.

Japan still has racist attitudes to foreigners and maintains strict controls on immigration; so despite the levels of immigration in the UK, how does this explain your view on multiculturalism?
It's clear who you are. You can't help but reply to every post, always wanting to have the final word. You have a particular thing against racism and call it out, even when it doesn't exist. You have specific, argumentative posting style. You have a track record of leaving or being kicked off this site, reappearing under one or more new names and then denying that you've been here before.

I completely agree, this could be the definition of cultural richness. The sort of thing that ****es people off though, for example, is when white people are accused of cultural appropriation for wearing their hair in braids when, in fact, Celtic tribes have been wearing braids for thousands of years. This sort of uninformed attack on 'white people' does nothing to progress how different people live and work together. Just like some people on this forum who invent new forms of subtle racism and use those forms to denigrate, accuse and often abuse people. They think they are clever but they are actually as close to the root of the problem as the overt true racists.

We don't need immigrants, we have had millions too many already BUT assuming we did need them, we would want only those that could contribute to the country - and we don't get those. Government schemes to attract brainy people have failed, this one, for instance attracted absolutely nobody:

Instead we get millions who come here for free stuff. Why would the "brightest and best" come to this country where a huge chunk of their earnings will be taken to fund a communist state paying millions to not work?
Perhaps the Japs are merely protecting their country; its culture, traditions and its history from becoming a graffiti-splattered, roller-shuttered, cannabis-stinking hellhole of a country like ours is and many European countries are?
What form does their supposed racism take? How can you have racism in a monoculture where there are no foreigners to be racist toward?

The Japanese term for foreigner can be used in a variety of ways and comes down to tone and context to convey the intent behind the word. Usually used in the vernacular as "Gaijin" it can be said to a foreigner as an insulting term. I'd heard it before and was surprised to hear it used so freely in Tokyo Vice (about an American Jew working as a journalist).
...the word "gaijin" is slang for someone who looks like a non-Japanese. Because it is slang, it is not appropriate for formal contexts, but as slang, the appropriateness of its casual use is contextual—99% of the time, I think the way it is used is fine. It is the 1% of used with malice that causes most of the controversy. I do not subscribe to the view that its limited malicious use means the term should be made taboo. The term gets a lot of focus by people new to Japanese culture who become aware of the exclusivity of Japanese social circles and struggle with the feeling of isolation the culture can give new arrivals (just as it gives migrant Japanese within Japan).

There're more people from the West living and working in Japan than you'd expect and it isn't a monoculture but a strictly hierarchical society that accepts Western (American) influence on its own terms, ensuring the supremacy of Japanese language and customs above all others. You can be a Christian, for instance, but you might experience subversive attitudes to your lifestyle among Japanese. Christianity was severely restricted in the South for centuries and suffered sporadic persecution, notably at the end of the 19th century when many Churches were closed and priests were hunted into isolation.
Yes, they've protected their culture but no, they do still harbour suspicion of foreign influence that can become racist depending upon the time and place you meet certain individuals; just as you do in the UK...
...although there's always an exception to every rule.
And no, it isn't racism.
