London cyclists dropping like flies

The wearing of Lycra suits for the everyday cycle to work???
What's that all about???

These are questions people want the answer to. No-one seems to know.

It gives them lycra balls. Biggest sausage in the office.

In my experience, London is a horrible, filthy place. I hate it.
It is this way because there is too much traffic.

The standard of driving I've witnessed is terrible, so incredibly agressive and general awareness of surroundings is nil.
Although I believe driving standards in general are getting worse, even up in the north...

When I lived close enough to work, I cycled, it was quicker than driving through traffic and it was fantastic for my health - especially as I sit most of the day. It was also dirt cheap, which was great as I was on minimum wage at the time.
Anyone who has cycled is aware everyone is out to kill them, not intentionally, but through stupidity.

Currently I'm on the motorbike for commuting, the viewpoint is perfect for seeing everyone on their phone, I tap on the windows.
Also, the motorbike is cheaper to run, tax, insure and the journey is quicker.
Before anyone gets on it, filtering is legal!

I also commute via van/car too, so I'd like to think I can see all sides.

Now, back to London. It's dirty because of traffic, too much traffic, more traffic than the city can handle.
Bicycles (and motorcycles) reduce congestion and emissions.
Also they are significantly cheaper to run.

Commuting into London by car? You have to be loaded!
LEZ compliant vehicle, Congestion charge, fuel etc. Cycle and you get to actually put your pay to something better (or eat and stuff, I imagine alot just simply can't afford it.)

Imagine central London if there were improved vehicle restriction - so, Buses, Taxi's, vehicle's being used for trade, Bikes and Cycles. Sorry, no private cars
(natural exemption would be residents).

Anybody have statistics for proportion of London road users? I imagine a significant volume being private drivers, solo in a car.

Anyone ever been to Holland? The cycling culture is fantastic, the air is clean and the people are happy.

To add some balance, cyclists that don't use perfectly good cycle lanes are very annoying.

On my way to work there is a B road with a fantastic cycle path, do they use it?
No, they slow traffic or force dangerous overtakes,
the road isn't wide enough for cycles and two lanes of traffic, that's why they spent alot of money improving and widening the path.

Usually the lycra brigade, perverts.

Yes, it's perfectly true. There are selfish idiot cyclists and selfish idiot motorists, even up in the North!

It seems to me the stupidity is endemic in this country today. I think it began with the 'nanny state' when the government tried to replace common sense with rules and regulations.

It's not just cyclists, nor motorists; it's everyone.

Where it will end, if it ever does, I cannot imagine.

It will end when the individual is not personally responsible for anything, anymore.

We are already seeing this now, like the hospital where the cancer treatment times were falsified, to meet targets.
The "hospital" has been put into special measures. Naughty hospital!!!
Forgive my ignorance, but I doubt that a wall, ceiling, or car park of that hospital fiddled the figures. A person or persons deliberately lied, yet appear to be unaccountable. Much less bother to "blame it on the "hospital" ......

Best name the road then Arsole can look it up and explain why you don't know what you're talking about :)
I think the lycra brigade have watched to much tdf on the box. They don't think "real" cyclists should go on the girly cycle lane with all the ordinary cyclists. Just an idea.

Yes, do please name the road.

Let's hope this time street view doesn't show people walking on it, or it just randomly terminating into a footpath, or having a bus stop in the middle of it.

Freeloader?????+??

Is there any road competency testing for Cyclists before they unleash themselves onto the highway??? Does anyone know.??? Is that free aswell?

There was the Cycling Proficiency test years ago. Don't know if it's still done, but there's no legal requirement for cyclists to have any training whatsoever, before riding on the roads. (unlike almost every other road user. )

Cheers jock, you're a good man. Just bringing the thread back to the safety aspect.
F*ck all legislation in place for any part of cycling on the roads, safety and competency being the first one.

They're too busy measuring themselves up for lycra suits and complaining about lamposts on cycle ways, to even stop to consider how stupid they are.

I see mad women with their tiny offspring, strapped into what can only be described as a basket on the back of their cycles, hanging on for dear life, whipping in and out of traffic on busy London roads.

What's the matter with the heads of these people.????

You can apply your last comment to some of the whole cross section of road users: that they are stupid.

I think all road users , should be made to read the Highway Code (even pedestrians should bloody well read it). Kids should have road safety, drummed into them in school. It's strange that motorcyclists, and vehicle drivers have to take a test, yet cyclists can just buy a bike and take to the open highways. When you consider, cyclists are one of the most vulnerable users on the roads. (mind you, pedestrians become vulnerable when cyclists take to the pavements)
