In the last month the 7day average of Covid rates have gone from 300 to 5,000.

https://www.google.com/search?q=south+africa+covid+rates

74% of sequenced tests were Omicron.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/africa/south-africa-omicron-covid-cases-b1968363.html

We can be confident that it is a variant that's more infectious than Delta, because it's out competing it. And that it is concerning as it is infecting so many people with naturally acquired protection as South Africa has had so much community transmission.

Waiting to see is stupid.

I guess that shows @gas112 thread title is nonsense.

Some sort of covid denier, perhaps.

I have not seen any "panic" yet, but perhaps where he lives it's different.

She seems to be critical of our response and then condones it? Maybe her Christmas plans have been ruined.

The article seems full of if's and buts and maybe's. She basically says it's a case of wait and see so why not be cautious until she does know?

The Southern African countries on the travel ban lists gain nothing from the travel bans but lose tourist income, they are likely to disapprove of the bans. The countries imposing bans on travel to Southern African countries hope to gain time to analyse the effects of the new variant. Imposing the travel bans seem a sensible precaution to me, not at all pointless.

the reaction within the uk general public has been a little over the top, but not from the government, from businesses and individuals,

this past week i know of 4 firms who have cancelled xmas parties, i've heard countless people spreading lies saying we are going to be locked down again at xmas, i've already seen people start to panic buy.

the hospitality industry is bracing itself for another xmas of lost revenue...

the general public doing what they do best creating mass panic and hysteria, much like with every other crisis of late... fuel crisis, toilet roll crisis, food crisis etc etc

Is it?

Ive seen no change from anybody whatsoever

where is this mass panic and hysteria you talk of? -how does it manifest itself, how should I look out for it
