My 1981 chrome bumper Mk1 Carlton. Not exciting, just spacious, comfortable, ultra reliable, easy to fix on the rare occasion it went wrong, huge boot. No bs electric bowlux, just everything you needed, no more. With me 11 years and I still miss it.

No, it's a 1970s four cylinder boxer engine, with two twin Webber carbs in this configuration. So each cylinder had its own barrel.
The Alfasud in its day was way ahead of its time.It was introduced in 1972. They were first sold here in 1973.

It had a very low centre of gravity, due to the flat four. It was very space efficient. It had disc brakes all round, with the front being in-board. Take it from me, they were a pig to work on!
It had a 5 speed box, a rev counter, fantastic performance, road holding and handling, with roll-free cornering. I used to love chucking mine round twisty B roads. It never gave up the grip.

And it had amazing crash performance for its day.
The 'sud had a collapsible steering column, an under-seat fuel tank and crumple zones front and rear which not all cars of that era had.
 
Volvo 740 GLE, 1986. I bought it for £1,400 in 1999 with 170,000 on the clock and used it mainly as a van/pickup for house renovations. I kept it 5 years and scrapped it with 250,000 on the clock. Drunk a litre of oil per tank of petrol. Was an amazingly comfortable car. I used to drive it to client meetings, much to the amusement of others.

My first 4 wheels was a Morris Mini Van; CRW214, secondhand but had been interior trimmed as a Mini Cooper. The car I regret most selling Honda Accord Tourer. Most talked about car I had was a Citreon BX estate.

That's the German built version of my Luton built Mk1 Carlton. Almost bought a Rekord, but a better Carlton in Ember red with full length Webasto sunroof came up.

When the Mk1 got too rusty, I bought a Mk2 with the 2200cc injected engine. Sold it a couple of years ago to another entusiast. Still regret it, but I had no time and it was sitting in the garage all the time. The old and the new replacement here -

Another one that I had!

Wasn't too keen as the steering went very light at higher speeds.

But the engine did sound like a sewing machine!

Bright turquoise metallic. NFM 575M

Was skint at the time and used to joke it stood for No F'in Money!

I had 2 Omegas, both V6. I used to leave work onto the A3 and climb the hill coming out of Guildford up to the Hogs back and the fuel consumption wouldn't reach double figures until going down the other side. Happy days when fuel was cheaper!
 
Alas I don't have any pics (I'm sure I took some back in the day but must have mislaid them :() however my favourite car was my Vauxhall Cavalier 2.0 GSi, 92 reg, metallic blue. Got it in 94 I think. 150bhp which at that time was quite a lot.

I was coming from a 1.3 gutless Ford Fiesta and I'll never forget taking the Cavalier for a test drive and the guy saying 'you can put your foot down a bit.' WOW! Of course you get used to the acceleration etc but in that moment, talk about a BIG difference from the Fiesta :)

It was completely stock so pretty much looked like this (pic from net.)

New ford Capri in front of me this afternoon nothing sporty about it sat higher than my suv . You wouldnt even give it a second look amongst other cars
