The sad thing is that people on a trans journey really struggle through life, with high levels of self harm, depression etc.........

I have just revisited a discussion I had with our esteemed former member Sunshine to find out what this is all about.

The case came about because of some rules which the Scottish government passed.

The example we had discussed earlier concerned single sex spaces. Under the normal UK rules, it is fine for an organisation to have single sex spaces for women and to exclude biological males. But the Scottish government passed rules which blurred the definitions. This meant that if there was a trans person who was born as a biological male but had a Gender Recognition Certificate saying that their gender was female, and this person was banned from a single sex space, then they would have been able to sue that organisation for discrimination. This court ruling has now made that impossible.

Why does it take the finest legal brains in the country to confirm that a woman is a biological woman. Even Kieth (eventually) got that right. Trans rights are still protected under the Equality Act. The Scottish definition would have made them more vulnerable to day to day discrimination, not less.

The ruling carefully ignores disputed definitions of sex and gender.

A man who gender reassigns, becomes a Trans Woman, importantly not a Woman. Whether you use the term gender or sex is irrelevant.
