Why is it always middle aged men that go for it? Then why do they often turn to be lesbians (Is that a "Translesbian" to get the terminology right?) with another one that's gone the same way?

I used to work with one, previously a short fat electrician, went the way of the T and was actually OK to talk to.

I'm trying to get my head around this. Do you mean two biological men who identify as trans women having a relationship?

Whether it is a full relationship or just mutual protection in a pair I don't know.
