Woman and Sex, means biological sex.

I'd heard (but forgotten) that environmental/societal stresses result in more girls being born. In situations where the population is under threat, you need more females than males to maintain/restore numbers.
I believe it's also linked to the fact that males are more frail in their early years.
And the death of so many males during wars.
It's socioeconomically influenced because the nobility used to have more males than average.
(Unless female births were not recorded).

The willingness to fight for those who are not able to defend themselves is not limited to any one person.
Anyone can step up, if they want.
Are you suggesting that these Trans genders cannot defend themselves?

I'm open to alternatives, but not at birth.
Who's suggested anything about everyone being a third option, just in case? Not I.

the primary aim of this study was to explore how parents of infants with unclear sex at birth made sense of 'intersex'......
Findings are discussed in light of the rigid two-sex system which pervades medicine and everyday life, and we argue that greater understanding of the complexity of sex and gender is required in order to facilitate better service provision and, ultimately, greater informed consent and parental participation regarding decisions about their children's status.

But denso and others say it doesn't happen.

Are you suggesting that these Trans genders cannot defend themselves?
No. I'm suggesting that if there are any contributing in this discussion, they are outnumbered and subject to abuse and ridicule.

Parents of intersex children are perceived in many studies as hopeless, highly dependent on the medical system, and as gate keepers of normative gendered bodies. In this article, we challenge these perceptions and argue that parents of intersex children are problematically positioned between their children's needs for care and well-being and the socialmedical forces that aim to "normalize" them.

Treatment of psychological problems of 59 children with a physical intersex condition is described. The group consisted of 18 female pseudohermaphrodites with congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), 20 male pseudohermaphrodites and 2 true hermaphrodites born with ambiguous external genitalia assigned the female sex (ambiguous girls), 14 male pseudohermaphrodites born with completely female external genitalia and assigned the female sex (completely female group), and 5 male pseudohermaphrodites born with ambiguous external genitalia and assigned the male sex. Despite the sex assignment, genital organ correction soon after birth, psychological counseling of parents and intensive psychotherapy of the children, general psychopathology developed equally in all 4 groups (39% of total group). Although 87% of the girls with a physical intersex condition developed in line with the assigned sex, 13% developed a gender identity disorder though only 1 girl (2%) failed to accept the assigned sex. Gender identity disorder and deviant gender role were in evidence only in girls with CAH and girls of the ambiguous group. Biological and social factors seem responsible for the development of gender identity disorder, such as pre- and postnatal hormonal influences on the brain enabling deviant gender role behavior to develop, and an inability on the part of parents to accept the sex assignment. A reconsideration of the sex assignment in male pseudohermaphrodites and true hermaphrodites born with ambiguous external genitalia is discussed.

So the physical development of their bodies caused mental anguish

But you don't believe that mistakes are made at birth. So you will never accept the existence of intersex babies.

So it's pointless trying to discuss it with you because your mind is closed to alternatives.

if there is no clear indication that the baby is a male or female then that is something that needs to be left until they develop more....but, those instances are very rare.

Transgender people who are clearly male or female decide to try to change their sex (impossible) because of an imbalance in their minds or because of some fetish they have. They are clearly mentally ill. There is an imbalance in their minds.

There is no clear-cut answer to the question of whether surgical genitoplasty affects gender identity in the intersex infant. The debate centres around which is more important for the development of gender identity: the biological sex of a child or the sex in which a child is reared. We believe that the surgical achievement of a phenotype concordant with the sex of rearing is a tremendous help to the parents of an intersex infant. We do not consider that the 'neutral' upbringing of a child with ambiguous genitalia is a feasible option, first because of the parents' distress which prevents them from raising their child normally and second because in most cultures around the world gender variants are not treated as equals.

Hence the onset of mental anguish.

Care to guess at a number?
Or is it some vague reference that suited your purpose?

The sex is assigned at birth, or within about 3 weeks. It is a legal requirement. It is not currently optional.

You are still arguing that the cart pulls the horse.
Until you accept the cause of mental anguish is due to the gender dysphoria you will never understand.

The definition gives you a clue:
Gender dysphoria is the distress a person feels when their gender identity differs from the sex they were assigned at birth.

The Government recognise that mistakes occur, hence the GRCs.
I don't think that many GRCs are issued to intersex people incorrectly "diagnosed" at birth.

Sex & gender are not congruent.
