or just rgi;s. ?

or can anyone be classed as an engineer ?

do they have an engineering certificate ?

Define engineer??

My city an guilds say i am a gas service engineer.
As part of my apprenticeship it covered all aspects of the gas industry as well as all aspects of building construction and house electrics from incoming mains.involving chemistry and physics at A level standard and to HNC afterwards
Dealt with guys with engineering degrees from uni within the company that could not understand the most practical of basic everyday work issues.

These standards of apprenticeships finished around 1990 and became NVQ`s.

Electrical engineers have nearly killed me twice by not even knowing basics of house wiring.

. thanks for that reply.

so after 1990 there no more gas engineers came along ?

I'm a Master Plumber, Sanitary Engineer & Heating Engineer. I know everything about what way sh.te flows & how to deal with it.

I had a fully indentured apprenticeship in all of the above & have the all the qualifications & C&Gs to prove it. I'm also a Gas Engineer with all my gas ACS. I also have a sister that's a Skool Patrol Crossing Engineer & a dog named Rex...........

thank you for replies

so is it a requirement that only gas service engineers can service, repair or install gas appliances.as opposed to a registered gas installer with no engineering qualification.

i have also emailed gas safe that question.

although i value replies from the people who actually do the work.

You cannot take gas qualifications unless you have either city and guilds or nvq in plumbing or HVAC both are engineering qualifications.

Bg do all there training in house but equates to the same thing

I qualified with City and Guilds in Gas Fitting in the 60's.
Since then there have been changes to the job title, from Gas Fitter to service engineer to technical engineer. The "engineer" part comes from the ability to install, service and repair the associated mechanical equipment.
Engineering is a term used and abused in many fields, and has little bearing on what RGI's can do. What he does is dictated by the ACS modules he has passed.

Is this an actual question or another tedious 'definition of an engineer' troll post. If the latter, this is the cambridge dictionary definition:

'a person whose job is to repair or control machines, engines or electrical equipment'

Excluding experience and some medium size Companies, BG probably has the best training available.

My local won the duster of the year prize 3 years on the trot (joke)

so you admit to being a gas CCC like all the other scum who have ruined a once great trade, what is the actual qual you have, is master plumber something you pay to join/receive or do you have to prove you are good to get it, im only a time served advanced plumber
