What would you do or what should you do if,

You are driven along a street when a large dog walks in front of you,

A) Continue driving and probably hit the dog.
B) Brake / slow down to try and avoid the dog.
C) Swerve out of the way to try and avoid the dog
D) Other

If you hit a dog with your car do you have report the accident to the Police

If it hapened to me, B would be the action I would take.

I think by law you have to report it, but if the dog has ran off i wouldn't bother. But if it's dead then phone the coppers, might take them a few hours to come.

Yes, did it happen to you?

If your car hits a dog or a farm animal, such as a sheep or cow, you are required by law to report the incident to the police. If you hit a cat or wild animal, there is no obligation to report it, but you must ensure that the animal is not injured and suffering.

Tell her to "get out the road, and lose some weight "!!

If tou are being 'driven' then let the driver take action, you can lean out the window, shouting.

I never witnessed the event but the passenger told me the story,

Their account of the story was the driver was going to do (A),
But after some shouting by the passenger the driver did (C).

The driver tried to make some excuse about what the Highway Code book says.

It was a near miss I’m told.

I dont plan on driving there......

here, different scenario altogether.

I try to avoid hitting anything!!!! With that said....
big dog, busy street.....odds are against dog
dog, neighborhood street, odds are for the dog, against the dog owners (if that's the case) for not adhering to the leash law.
downtown.......DOGS RULE!!

and unless the dog bites someone, the police are never involved

mlb3c,
"and unless the dog bites someone, the police are never involved".

What if someone bites a dog , what happens then ?

You must not take any action that would endanger another road user.

IE.. if a dog runs out & you brake hard & someone goes into the back of you, I believe that is your fault.

I see it another way, the driver is driving too close and not enough stopping distance.(?)

It’s a grey area, I still think the braking distance should be taken into account

Totally agree, if you hit the car in front you are too close or not paying proper attention to your driving and the conditions around you.

Two second rule applies, even at 5 miles an hour in a built up area.

An if the car in front is too close to the car in front of him (or her) then keep 4 seconds behind.

Since there is now a lucrative crime of people switching of their brake lights and then slamming on their brakes to make the person behind run into them and profiting from the insurance claim keeping distance is a good idea.

What utopia do you live in, Masona ? If you attempt to leave a braking space some idiot will just HAVE to overtake and swerve into it !!

Then you slow down and allow for the braking distance again, I'm not bothered about any idiot driving, I just let them get on with it.
