Christmas cancelled in Essex

But, and this is what people don't seem to understand, whilst the risk of getting caught is low, the risk of catching the virus is still high, as high as it's ever been, and that's what it's all about, and that's what it's always been about ... avoid contact with others.

I'd rather be speaking to my friends and family on the phone or computer, rather than saying prayers for them later.
It's depressing how many people, even those in medical services, were (and perhaps still are) missing that key concept.

we have friends in three camps - one lot absolutely paranoid, one lot being sensible and others not taking a blind bit of notice.
One of our friends that were not taking a blind bit of notice of it has heard this morning that one of her friends had tested positive for Covid. She was supposed to be coming round to her house to cut her partner and his sons hair on Monday. I bet she still won’t learn from it though.

Correct. Said friend of Mrs Mottie (above) has a daughter who is a junior doctor who has to take turns on a Covid ward. She is working night shift on Christmas Eve and said friend had planned to spend Christmas Day at her house.

I never said I didn't agree with the lockdowns. Just was disappointed, and annoyed at the continued mishandling from government.

I would have been less disappointed had we followed other EU countries weeks earlier
We can't pick and choose which other country we want to follow, or would have preferred to follow.

It's easy to do in hindsight, but no other country is seeing the data the UK Gov sees, other countries have different demographics, economy, triggers etc etc.

I agree the frequent changes are annoying and to some may appear reactive with no plan. But to that I would suggest that this would always be the case when dealing with this pandemic situation, and the problem is that Boris had not got that message out properly and has not managed our expectations properly.

It's not politically palatable, but the message should have been to prepare for things to change rapidly, and the public should have had that drummed into them for months.

Now Handjob is saying the new virus is 'rocketing', 'deadly serious'' and 'out of control'. Only thing out of control is his rhetoric and scare tactics. Also says we should behave as if we already have it. Bit like reality for most people who ACTUALLY do have it - having it but not being aware of it. No specifics or science, just hyperbole. Expect night time curfews any day now in London and SE.

Anyway, luckily my brother is in Bristol which is now in tier 2 so I will be going to stay with him for Christmas. He's located a couple of pubs where we should be able to get a few pints over Xmas. Accompanied by a substantial meal of course. (y)

I’m in London. I only know one person that’s had it..... my neighbour had it in March.. ambulances come a couple of times & had to give oxygen as he refused to go into hospital, said if he does, that would be his lot!
Anyway he was ok after a month or so but was still coughing all through the summer.
I do now see a lot of ambulances flying around though.

I’m in other peoples houses every single day. I wear a mask all the time while working & going into shops. I use hand gel whenever I get back in the van, ALWAYS put on one of those silly glove things in petrol stations.
All of my customers have been fine.
(Up to now!)
Maybe it’s mainly effecting people who mix in certain circles or who behave in a certain way? I don’t know.

Yep, keep those Londoners out with their nasty mutations. ;)

Christmas is cancelled in London , so everyone has decided to come to the Isle Of Wight (Tier 1 ) for Christmas Week
Wightlink Mid night Ferry from Portsmouth packed with passengers determined to spend Christmas in Hotels and Holiday Homes .
Wightlink Spokesperson stated that they had never seen so many passengers on a Mid Night Ferry .
