Holy Smoke

He's probably arguing that alcohol is a drug. I remember certain people trying that one with me when I said I didn't use drugs.
According to the World Health Organisation, a drug is any substance that, when taken into the body, alters its functioning in some way. This can include prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, and illicit substances like cocaine or heroin. By this definition, alcohol is clearly a drug, as it alters brain function and can affect a person’s behaviour and mood.

Alcohol is a drug.

I'm pointing out that it is undeniably one.

And in some places it is illegal because of that.

If you make dealing a criminal act then users inevitably become involved with criminal dealings, becoming participants in criminal transactions with the sort of people who might well have other products they wish to sell,
You cannot say that cannabis takers are unwitting and innocent people; they are people who have knowingly broken a law, and being the sort of people who break laws they will most likely be breaking other laws besides the drug laws. Therefore any legalisation bids are pandering to the worst people in society. The only person who can legitimately argue for the legalisation of the drug is a person who has never actually taken it.

Yes, and this subject has been done so many times already on this forum.

According to pillocks. By this definition, alcohol

Of course alcohol is a drug, but only when used as a drug. A person who, as an example, has a pint after work on a hot day, to quench his thirst and without the intention of getting drunk, is not drinking for the effect of the drug. You cannot say the same for cannabis, lsd, heroin, cocaine etc, which, apart from certain controlled medical uses, are only taken with the intention of intoxication.
