Crickey! Well no one can fault your enthusiasm but I think you might have your eyes opened when you realise what's involved. But hey, wadda I know? I had to close my business this year! Good luck with it though mate. I hope you realise your dreams.

Why did you close you business?? Lack of customers. What area did you specialise in?

We are absouoltly stacked out at the moment, and having to work weekends just to get through it.

I do specialist commercial electrical contracting work.

Good luck, and feel free to pop into the electrics UK forum if there are parts of your training which you dont understand, or want a bit of help with :)

The work is there Craig. My reasons were purely personal. I have been in and out of hospital all year! It really has been an absolute nightmare but that's another story for another time. But the business suffered terribly due to it and we took the decision to close. Its difficult but sometimes you have to look after yourself before its too late. Hopefully I will bounce back but its going to take a while.

We did Plumbing but covered most building maintenance if required.

If I had my time again (I'm 42 now), I would have seriously considered the Electrical side. I started out in life as a Fitter then went into the building game. I had an accident a work years ago and shattered my pelvis so had to leave construction. Following rehabilitation I found myself stacking shelves in Safeway (we needed the money!). For some reason they seemed to like me and I worked my way through the ranks into senior management. I then went into Human Resources (HR), and further became a HR Trainer. I never really did 'fit' in the corporate world. Don't get me wrong, I liked the people and strangely did rather well but I always felt I was there due to my accident so I decided to move back into construction. We did ok and things were going well then my bloody health let me down AGAIN! So I think someone somewhere is trying to tell me something... I wish I knew what!!!

Anyway, very best of luck with your chosen career mate. All the best, Blas.

Cheers buddy.

I am kind of in the same situ at the moment. Left school at 17 with good highers, joined the current company I work for and been there now 8 years. While its a good company, good pay etc, its just not my calling looking at spreadsheets all day turning data into info!!!!

So, thought I would grab the bull by the horns and become a sparky. Was thinking of being a tiler aswell, but i've always enjoyed electrical stuff, esp when studying it in physics, so spark route it is!

Hope the injury gets better soon.
