London cyclists dropping like flies

There's only ever been room for 'Bits' of cycle lanes in London. The 'bits' don't stop because the borough council run out of money, they stop because there's no roooom.

Apparently the council gets millions of pounds for every metre of cycle lane they build. Here in Bristol they did about 50yrds on Muller Rd and got a massive kick back from Brussels.

You're right.
Cyclists using the footpath is illegal.
Cyclists riding on the roads at night without lights is illegal.
Cyclists riding through red traffic lights is illegal.

All things I have witnessed today.

It's all right making such things illegal. It's meaningless unless such laws are enforced.

From the green thing and the sign It looks to me like the end of a dedicated cycle lane and the start of a combined bus/cycle/taxi/tram lane.

Good point about bus lanes.

Is it possible that all these bus lanes (which Liverpool, for one, has decided are unnecessary and to the detriment of good traffic flow) could be converted to cycle lanes?

Better still, they could be narrowed down and might leave space for an additional traffic lane as well.

I could spend all lunch hour posting up stuff from head cams of OTHER cyclists but if you go to you tube you'll see for your self what their like!!

I always tell my kids when they are walking along the road and crossing that no body cares about their safety and to make sure that they stay self themselves and not trust anything or anyone who is passing by in a vehicle or on a bike. Stay back from the edge of the road, wait till the green man is flashing and still look both ways whilst crossing and keep listening at all times.

Lets stay safe out there people!

Because they have jobs to go to, people to see, things to do.

Not everyone can afford cars or use public transport (affordability or practicality)

B*ll*x, most of these people who cycle to work in London do so for the same reason some people put stupid little wind turbines on their roof.
Because some d,head politician has told them it's the green thing to do, look at that clown Boris Johnson or various other top politicians who love to be snapped riding a bike.

I'm not surprised that so many cyclists have been killed when you see such stupid behaviour. The idiot in the first video appears to be under the impression that cyclists may ignore red lights as long as they are turning left!

It's sad that sensible cyclists have been killed due to no fault of their own (and I'm assuming that is the case), but arrogant idiots get what they deserve.

This convinces me even more that cyclists should carry some form of number plate-type identification. If they're happy to injure or kill themselves in their stupidity that's fine by me, but if they damage my car I want to know who to go to court with. Even better would be if the law took any notice and charged them with dangerous cycling.

When I had my motorcycle, something we were always taught was the lifesaver - a quick glance over the shoulder before you change lane or overtake. Something I have never seen a cyclist doing, instead they just seem to focus on whats ahead of them, unaware of anything coming up behind them or whether they are moving into the path of a bigger vehicle. Maybe this is the reason.
