Why is it that British cops follow speeding cars for miles until they come to a standstill, yet in America the cops push the car at the rear and spin them out. Why don't they do that here? Surely the sooner they are off the road the better?

Because we are too soft.

The criminal might get hurt if the cops ended the persuit.

If you run from the police then you must be prepared to take the consequences.

Surely it must be possible in this day and age to put some sort of chip in the electronics of the car that can cut the engine off remotely. Stop them dead in their tracks, no need for a chase or bumping them off the road.

How about arming the police helicopters with air to surface missiles?

As soon as you hit a car even in a controlled (not really any such thing) way it becomes a very unpredicatable moving lump of metal. In england our roads are a lot narrower than in the usa. Its a recipe for disaster.

It does happen either through t-pac whereby the car is almost surrounded before its bought to a standstill or they can be rammed, but that has to be authorised and is only normally used where the risk to the public from the occupants either through driving or being allowed to get away is viewed greater than the risk of an accident.

Yeah, it would also be possible, in this day and age, for the crims to remove such devices and / or have them reprogrammed, claiming they were faulty.

Its called a P.I.T manouvre, nothing to do with crumple zones, clip a car on its rear quarter and it will spin.

S od Permission to perform such a manouvre, actueally seen this performed in the states and road was no more wider than ours.

Fek this PC S HITE.

Wrecking a car to end a pursuit is probably OK when only the criminal driver is aboard. He has the option to stop. He makes the decision to keep running

There may be an innocent passenger who is maimed or killed in the wreck

But how many times do you see them on the TV going up motorway slip roads the wrong way and running red lights at high speed with a bunch of cops following behind just watching? Just push them into the nearest ditch.

ive actually done it, its difficult to do and very very unpredictable. Very few chases over here actually end with any problems/injuries or fatalities, but when thye do they obviously make the news.
