Todays Job

Are they SUDS blocks ie self draining? Otherwise you might need planning permission if the drive drains onto the footway
yes they are SUDS. Cost a fair bit but worth it in my opinion

I thought you was going to block pave the lot
I was but we are now looking at different options as a fully block paved drive looks dull. We are going for the more designer well to do look.

Plasmor Premia 60's are not permeable. Plasmor do sell a permeable range ('Permi-8'), but yours are not those.

If the driveway slopes towards the road, you should have an Aco or gully at the end to collect the water and drain it into a soak-away. I'd just argue that there is a camber on the paving, allowing the surface water to fall to the sides.

Are you sure because he told us that they was the ones that soak up the water like a sponge.

Please don't say that you ate the whole pack of digestive biscuits.

"Fake digestives actually"
OMG how clever are Morrisons with their packaging. I thought they were McVities as they look just like them. Still tastes the same though unlike my fake penguins. I think they are McVities as they tasted the same. I ate half the packet and saved the rest for today. OMG I might throw them away now you have pointed this out. I am now coming out in a rash.

OK well I will ask him today, as I am unsure of this and why I got a block paver in to do it for me. Not often do I get involved with drives as the one we inherited has been down a long time and was in need of replacing.

The secret soakaway police
They're not all that secret. I doubt anyone will complain or that he'd be unlucky enough to have anyone snooping. Falling out with neighbours, or nosey neighbours are the usual culprits.

We have to follow the rules due to LA inspectors being on site and adhering to Planning conditions etc. I built new soakaways at my own gaffe, mainly on the back of on-going (inspected) developments.

Compliance is the homeowners' responsibility. The fact that there was never a conversation, says more about your block paving chap than anything else.
Are you on permeable ground - i.e. not clay?

the soil is like dust, however we did have the conversation about water, I just didnt pay much attention to it, he has done just about every drive in this area and why I used him, he has one of the leading block paving firms around here, he has done this one himself as he lives a few doors from me.

The (top) soil is irrelevant. I'm talking about the stuff 1m+ below the surface.

No clay, when we dug a trench for my armoured cables from my lamp post we dug down 500mm and it was coming up like flour

Most driveways in my grove slope like yours with no drainage, hope we all dont end up in prison :-(

Seriously though, the last neighbor to get the drive done was given the option but chose to take the risk.

Is this a new thing I had my drive done 6 years ago and the driveway company never mentioned it?
