What have you stopped doing or buying due to rising costs?

I have given up overseas holidays, which is not hard seeing as I have not been on an overseas holiday for about 20 years.
The heating has been turned down to "doesfeckall" instead of "barelywarm" as it was before the fuel issue.

Thank god we are not on a water meter of I'd have to install a hole in the ground type loo :)

Doesn't that defy the object of the exercise - i.e. slow cooking? Have you seen the price of gas.
Sorry, slow cooking as in electric slow cook pot. Uses 180W, takes a good few hours.

The beauty is, you can prep a one pot meal and chuck it in the night before. Then whenever you get home the next day, it's hot and ready.

Me too. Not really by choice, I'd love to go overseas, just not been able to afford it for years. Last trip abroad was, I think, 2005, the year before my first son was born.
My passport has expired. No holiday this year, hoping to get to Italy next year though, before the teenager decides we're so uncool he can no longer be seen with us.

Don't be ****ing ridiculous.

The kind of scenario alluded to in the film has happened. And people have died or suffered as a result.

Government systems should not be designed in such a way and they should be accountable for the consequences.

I'd like to see you cope on the bare minimum of income, forced to make choices people should not have to (like heat or eat), having to sell stuff to exist.

But I know that you think that all people who claim benefits are living the high life, ripping off the system for all they can get and are not wanting for anything.

In your LaLa land, that is.

Before himmy gets here, I'll litter this thread with BS...

Recently I stopped buying caviar every day for breakfast, I only treat myself to it once a week now.
My 3 Rolls Royce were becoming an unjustifiable expense, so I donated one to my friend because he crashed his Bentley continental and I felt sorry for him.
Usually at Christmas I buy a 4 carat diamond for my partner. I'm now stopping this and will only get a 2 carat max.
My friends Dolce and Gabbana will only see me once a month from now on to renew my wardrobe, instead of every week.
My daily lunch reservation at the Ritz will have to go as well, every other day is more than enough.
And finally, considering the price of fuel, I will limit my nights out in world's capitals because my private jet drinks too much.
Hard times.

Choices? Exactly.

There is plenty of work available, just look at all the foreigners who choose to come here to do it.

It might surprise you to know foreigners don’t get jobs in the UK in areas of high unemployment.

where do you get this weird hatred of people on benefits

I'm finding more people I know can't really walk any more, though they wouldn't count as disabled, so they need a car for everything. Two will have their cars effectively scrapped for £0 by the larger ULEZ scheme, though they only did a couple of thousand mile a year. Electric bikes sound OK but they're another can o worms, and you get wet...

Luckily I spent my working life travelling around the world. Box ticked!

How many people would be in that position? There can't be many that would be totally incapable of doing some sort of work.

That's an interesting opinion. How many do you guess there are?

I asked first, so tell me, how many would be in that position?
There are many disabled people who work, many parents who work. Many people find excuses not to work, including me, but I am self supporting.
