Good luck Coljack, won't be easy to start with, also exercise if you can, walk round the block then next time walk a little quicker etc

Yeah good luck CJ.... but can i suggest you forget the idea that you're on a diet, and think of it as changing the way you live your life, but for the REST of your life.?

You're right, it's not going on the diet but change the way you eat, I have mentioned this before, 3 meals a day is bad for you, eat a little as often then you won't feel hungry, I'm now eating approximately 5 - 7 mini meals a day.

I have to break my silence here Col, did you ever wonder if being so big had a bearing on your recent unemployment? If I was an employer I'm afraid I'd have to seriously ask myself if the interviewee could not manage their own weight how could they manage their time as my employee etc? This is not just a reflection of my own personal attitude but a reflection of society as a whole.

Oooh! you! how bitchy! I'd have thought being unemployed made you eat less, as you have a limited budget, and can only afford own store products, and as you don't have personal transport, have to walk everywhere, So I'd say the opposite, being unemployed makes you thinner.

I don't agree, it may be different for differrent people, but being busy, constantly scuttling around, means you won't constantly have a pie in your hand

aimlessly wandering, or sitting about, means you can. Also when you have less money you are more likely to buy cheap food, which is often stuffed with fat and sugar. I believe some unemployed people also spend time drinking.

But you don't get to 33st after a year or two of unemployment, that takes some serious long term commitment!

Good luck with the diet CJ, you need to be strong willed and joining a club will help, remember to keep an eye on the high GI foods

It is best to start your day with fueling up on low GI foods, such as porridge as it has a slow release and will help prevent unused carbs being stored as fat and will also help prevent food cravings between meals and drink plenty of water, at least 2 litres a day and more if you take up exercise, which I recommend you do,

start doing some walking and buy a pedometer so you can keep a record, they can become quite adictive and you end up increasing physical activity.
The other thing that could help is keeping a daily journal of the food you eat and the exercise you do, the calculation are not hard burn more calories than you eat and you will lose weight.
You'll find the weight will come off easy to begin with as you have a lot to lose.
You have a massive BMI rating and really need to reduce this to prevent other medical problems http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/
It would be good idea to get measurements not only of your weight but
Waist
Blood Pressure
and BMI, even body fat contents if possible.
They will all give you individual goals to achieve and give you an overall outlook on your general health.
Come on CJ you can do it, if you ever need any tips or advice or encouragment, I am willing to help.
Get into some good habits and you can crack it!

and BMI, even body fat contents if possible.
The problem with BMI which is misleading, just come out of hospital and according to them after weighing, I'm obese :!:  I have more muscle than fat so I'm not overweight as you says the body fat percentage is the best guideline. I find the best way is don't weigh yourself, just look in the mirror and see if you're in the right shape. I don't even know what I weigh now but I know what my body fat percentage is ;)

I agree with you masona, BMI is a calculation to used as a guideline, it's your body fat measurement that will give a fairer indication of health/fitness.
We only need to look at say Daley Thompson or Lennox Lewis when in their prime, their BMI would have told them they where obese too, but the truth would be they where extremely fit.
But BMI can be an important tool as an early guideline to loosing weight.
My BMI is 26 but I consider myself to be in very good physical shape, with very little body fat and VO2 max of 53 last time it was measured.

yup.. I was about 15st when I left school..
then I was on a YTS with a guy a year older than me that was about the size that I am now ( his whole family was big )..

I know he didn't force the food down my gob but he did keep asking me if I wanted to go to the chippy on a dinner time and even when I had no cash he'd buy me a bag of chips.. ( I think it was so he could stay in the car while I went in and order the pie and chips.. ) ..

so for 3 years it was almost every day chips for dinner or a burger or a BEST etc..

my weight was in the low to mid 20's when I left there and has climbed for the past 15 years or so to where I am now..
I did diet a few years ago and got back onto the scales ( they go up to 28st ) after a few weeks and then down to 26st 8lb before slipping off the diet when the factory moved..
I know it's not an excuse but at the old factory we finished at 16:15 and I was home for 16:40 ish and then made a salad etc, but when they moved it was the same finishing time but an hours drive home and past several fast food places and chippies so it was easier to stop at maccies for some nuggets than to get back at quarter past five and then prep / cook a proper meal..
I also moved out and spent a year and a half without a proper kitchen so again takeaways were easier than trying to cook in a microwave and a toaster..
In all honesty it's down to my own lazyness.
couldn't be bothered to cook, couldn't be bothered to shop, couldn't be bothered to get off my arse and go for a walk etc.. ( though I did clock myself with a pedometer at the new factory once and I did a little over 4 miles walking during one working day, not that every day was the same.. )..
