It really is incredible isn't it. The concept of keeping left when the road is clear is so simple you wouldn't think it would ever need explaining. Yet people here can't grasp it. Nobody is saying you can't use the middle lane when traffic is busy and the left lane is full of slow moving traffic. Nobody is saying you must dip in and out of small gaps in the middle left lane. What it says is that you use the left lane when the road ahead is clear.

But forget it because it's lost on that small number of selfish drivers who are only interested in themselves and probably aren't even aware that there are other users around them. As long as they are cruising at 70mph they're not causing an obstruction. All the bunching, tailbacks and frustration behind them is just everybody elses fault. The fact that people are forced to use the third lane in order to get past and make progress is of no consequence. The fact that drivers in the left lane have often to move across three lanes in order to get past them and then move back is of no consequence to them. As long as they don't ever have to change lanes themselves - as long as they can sit there oblivious, in their own little World, they don't give a toss.

Only to impatient people who think that they've got the right to pick and choose what laws to obey to suit themselves.

At the end of the day, it's just common sense driving but won't works because most drivers are selfish and hothead. It's simple, when overtaking then return to the left hand lane when it's safe

I'm now visualising plod trying to get past you to deliver your ticket. Don't hold back when it is mind. Make sure you stick to your principle and tell it to him exactly like it is. A couple of well chosen hand signs will put him in his place as well - and might even make him realise what an rshole he is and that you were right all along. He might even not bother stopping you. Got to be worth a try.
