When you ask where the shadow got chemical weapons from easy probably us we sell anything to anyone with the money and if not us then eastern block let's face it when you have the money the sky is the limit
 
I dont understand why we are so hell bent on getting rid of one of the few secular regimes left in the Middle East. My thinking is that generally a secular dictatorship is better then an islamist dictatorship like Saudi or Iran.

I understand the geo political game of it, Syria has always been friendly with Russia now or the Soviets throughout the cold war. But I think Assad is a lesser evil then a Libya or Afghanistan type aftermath. You could see early on the world media swung against Assad that he was killing his own people when they came down pretty hard on protestors but the double standard is that the Egyptian military govt recently did the same and Bahrain did as well same time as Assad but with being old friends and having a fleet stationed there, the arms and media support to the opposition didnt flood in and in the case of Bahrain especially it was hushed up. Old scores getting settled here.
 
Did anyone see Kirsty Wark on Newsnight tonight? She asked the following question to a Syrian Govt. official.

"If you haven't used chemical weapons against your own people, how can you prove it?"

:confused:

Even the BBC are getting stuck in now.

Interesting result in the Parliament vote today. They denied the PM's motion entirely - and that was the hastily watered down "we'll have another vote before we actually do anything" motion.

That has to be a smack in the face for David Cameron - but I think that serves him right for trying to rapidly railroad military action through with no disclosure of evidence or respect for process.

Also interesting implications for the US <> UK lapdog military interventions going forward.

Personally, I believe this is the right result at this point.
 
The MP's are right to be cautious.

The LimpDems, meanwhile, are all for it. Last time (ie Iraq), they made the right decision (ie don't do it), but this time they've got it oh-so-wrong....they're backing Cam to the hilt.

I think Nick was trying to claw back some credibility by being seen to do something decisive by backing 'call me Dave' in his firm stance. How backing someone else's decision can be seen as decisive is beyond me. Sad for them both that the motion was not passed.

So now Nick "call me Nick" just has - I decided to back someone else's firm stance, they went down in flames with that so I am doubly down in flames.

It's only one motion - but the fact it was not passed should have major consequences.
 
So, a glimmer of hope....

That we might just stop following the US in it's 'death throes'!

Best we re-emerge realising that as a small nation we should have no real ambitions of playing beyond our means and start dealing with what is important...

Ignore the past, and we may just have a future...

I'm glad they lost that vote for the same reasons as ellal, and normally I would say let the Arabs kill each other it's not our problem.
But using chemical weapons on innocent people demands a response, it shouldn't be allowed to go unpunished.
But what can you do? It's a sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t world.

Have the politicians actually voted in accord with the wishes of the majority of UK population? Looks like they have, and hopefully we will stay right out of it.

Far too many of our brave troops have paid the ultimate price for next to no result. Often, it looks like we have been involved with something that causes more problems.


Also, today's papers are saying that it will affect our special relation with the Americans. I'm not anti-American, but this special relationship, if it still exists, is always to their benefit. Obama and the current US politicians don't even pretend to be pro-British, so let then get on with it.

We know where we stand with the Americans. They will only help us if and when it suits them (WW2), or not at all as in The Falklands. Let them cosy up to those brave Frenchies. :LOL:

Interesting that Obama has now referred the US action to Congress...

Giving himself a bit of 'wriggle room'?

Maybe, just maybe the UK Parliament has taken the lead for once!

(No doubt though that the military-industrial complex won't take this lying down!)
