I am self-isolating. 10 years of Chemo and Radio and a bone marrow transplant. I may be in the vulnerable category at 48. Thing is if my wife goes out, or the kids go to school as they plan on doing I may catch it anyway. If I become a statistic, does anyone fancy finishing my kitchen off and letting the wife out of the shed? ...........just the kitchen would do me......

Which part of the country?

NHS is already getting filled and staff are getting close to strike as they are not being tested.

I would try to isolate as much as possible, the service will be overwhelmed unfortunately. Look after yourself.

norcon/roger928/ryland is a ground worker from Ireland or some such. He often posts about being ded ard.
He has been claiming brexit will bring big opportunities in his industry.

But clams up when asked what industry and how.

He seems a rather unhappy bitter person.

10 years of Chemo....Bloody Hell. That is seriously tough and stressful for you and yours.

Yet you mock anti - vaxxers......
If herd immunity was such a good idea we'd be putting everyone in Wembley stadium and asking them to cough on each other.

Herd immunity is what you get at the end of a pandemic, when a disease has become endemic (never going away) because nearly everyone has already caught it and either died or gotten better. Then you get little outbreaks and a slow steady stream of deaths.

It is a tactic for addressing the disease, but it is better known as doing nothing. We know enough to know it's a bad idea. Just like anti-vaxxers (edit: we know enough to know anti-vaxxers are a terrible idea, but that's another rant).

One of my employees has a friend who has it. He's in his early 40s and physically fit. It came on quick, dry cough, temperature and then full on for a week. just getting up and going to the loo has him out of breath. It seems like a tough dose of proper flu. All my people are working from home, a lot of what they do can be done via video conference. I'm having twice daily check in calls and making sure that those in my team who are single and relying on friends, have support from us.

Was he tested or just told to self isolate.

The Government has given up on testing and using peoples own info on who is isolating to creat a map of the hotspots. Leading to unreliable data but it's cheaper, there is that.

not tested. I personally can't see the point of focusing energy on testing people who aren't a high risk group.

Most flu is diagnosed by symptom. Risk of being killed by lightning is still fairly similar, tho I accept the numbers will go up.

Would you measure before you cut?

You test to get data on where the virus has spread and its R0.

The more you test the more you work out how this is evolving. Giving up on testing is admitting defeat.
