EU divorce bill agreed

Boris, Fox and Davis huffed & puffed, called the EU names, wrapped themselves in the flag & sang the national anthem, and basked in the glory of triumphant splashes in the Daily Mail.... And then agreed to pay what Brussels was demanding

"Prime Minister Theresa May is expected to formally present the breakthrough offer next week as part of a package deal if agreement can be reached on the other issues of citizen rights and the contentious question of the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic."

Who can tell me what our government is proposing for Northern Ireland? Will it be a border wall and customs posts between NI and the Republic? Or will it be a border wall and customs posts between NI and GB?
At least wall would create jobs in the short term and in the long term lots of well paid security jobs policing it, the only people who want to keep the border open are fuel smugglers, illegal immigrants and VAT dodgers.
There wont be a wall between N.I. and G.B. as that would require constitutional change and even in the unlikely event of that scenario where one part of the UK was in the customs union while the rest of the country was outside it would only fuel demands from the SNP for the same treatment.
The whole thing would be more trouble than it is worth, anyway historically there has been a border between Ulster and the rest of Ireland.

so what do you think the UK government has proposed?

The EU has to look after its 27 members interests, which includes the Republic of Ireland, which doesn't want a wall. As the UK is resigning membership, the EU no longer has to protect UK interests.

The UK (especially hardliner Brexiteers) has said it will not conform to EU requirements enabling it to be inside the Single Market.

recent news:

"The Irish government is seeking guarantees from the UK that there will be no customs checks on the border with Northern Ireland after Brexit and movements of goods and people will remain seamless.

Mr Tusk has stated Dublin must be satisfied there will be no return to a "hard border" and as Irish ministers met on Monday, it seemed there was yet to be a resolution. "

and unsurprisingly

"Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon reacted to reports that Northern Ireland could retain "regulatory alignment" with the EU by saying there was "surely no good practical reason" why other parts of the UK could not do the same."

but the mad Brexiteers are doing their best to scupper the chances of any agreement

"Mrs May's meetings comes as the EU withdrawal bill returns to the Commons for a fourth day of debate and leading Tories, including Jacob Rees-Mogg, John Redwood and former chancellor Lord Lawson, signed a letter calling on the PM to refuse to settle the UK's "divorce bill" unless Brussels agrees to a series of demands."

Ahem!
Belgian MEP Philippe Lamberts earlier told the BBC's Laura Kuenssberg that the UK had made a concession on the Irish border.
The BBC's political editor said Mr Lamberts had said the UK was prepared to accept that Northern Ireland may remain in the EU's customs union and single market in all but name. But, she stressed, the BBC has not seen the draft document nor has it been signed off.

...
And Wales, and London.

Except DUP have scuppered the deal:

Did the DUP sink a proposed deal?
Laura Kuenssberg
Hearing it was the DUP call that sunk today's chances of a deal - Foster held her press conf, 20 mins later May leaves talks with Juncker to call her, goes back into the room and the deal is off

Well she would wouldnt she? But she is talking carp, the Island of Ireland is a special case, it has a long land border. Scotland not so much.

SNP.....campaigns for a referendum for an independant Scotland. The people say no. The SNP ignore the wishes of the people and campaigned for indyref2. After the UKs EU ref, the SNPs are suddenly bleating they dont want independance. D'oh! bunch of hypocrites.

Nobody.

Our "strong and stable" is being blown hither and thither by the DUP minority, the Republic, and the Scottish Fish woman.

So much for "taking back control."

Our government has not even decided what it wants. It will end up with what it can get.

The Quitters have had more than two years to think of a solution, and have failed.

Unfortunately JohnD is too stupid to realise its an ongoing negotiation.

He also forgets TM was a remainer and has taken on Brexit because it was democratically decided by a referendum.

She is therefore a hypocrite and not doing what she believes best for the country.

A fundamental deriliction of duty for an M.P.; not to mention P.M.

Notch is a quitter.

When he voted to resign, what did he think would happen to NI?
