Is there a general combi boiler brand which is considered best value for money?

Bit like the motor trade, 98% of the faults are because of the idiots fitting them....

Or being on a tight schedule, needs to be done in x timescale, when the materials don’t turn up on time been to a couple of installs recently, one being 6 months old,and the hose to expansion vessels were blocked, causing problems - similar to Vaillants infamous F75 fault.

That sounds like a sensible idea.

The latter stages of this particular thread produced several less than bright observations which were of no use to man nor beast, but this last one sounds like a plan.

Now tell me which is the premium boiler.

Premium price, Premium specification, Premium components, Premium versatility, Premium efficiency, Premium hot water flow? Detail your requirements.

You could go for an super exotic boiler that's efficient and reliable and breaks down on average every 5 years but then takes a month for a specialist fitter that understands it to come out, order the parts and get it running again.

Other end of the scale buy a Duotec, cheap, reasonably reliable but will need a new diverter every couple of years which any RGI should be able to source and fit the same day.

Just like cars really you can have a Ferrari or a Ford. The supercar is not the best for most situations.

It's not just about the boiler it's the whole package you need to look at.

^^^ To be honest my reply was tongue in cheek.

I was hoping to see what durhamplumber considered "premium".

After looking in on numerous posts over quite a while we all know that the ill informed enquirer looking for advice WILL be told that :-

WB are crap - for a variety of reasons (but their back up is good). They only sell coz of their advertising and the Which magazine
Vaillant is crap for a variety of reasons and Glowworm is even more crap, but cheaper crap and they, too, sell well coz of Which magazine.
Baxi is crap
Ideal is especially crap (and leaks more than the rest)
Potterton don't even get a look in
Viessman is over-rated, expensive crap, the degree of which depends who's commenting, and is less often seen in peoples houses and therefore to be avoided like the plague.
Vokera is highly rated by one or two respected regulars here here but the majority of commentators would write it off ..... as crap.
Intergas. We've covered that in some detail. The gear isn't crap, but the company, which used to be good, is crap now.

Before I get abused, you've got to admit that the whole world (but plumbing and heating forums especially) has diametrically opposed views on what's good and what isn't and whatever you finish up with 50% of the panel will think you're mad.
