I apologise, and stand corrected, this topic could probably go on and on... The letter of the law and it's interpretation can be quite complex, two barristers slugging it out in court will have their side and point of view on what they perceive the law to mean and quote prescedent of previous findings and reference to hallsbury's and other legal documents. The joy's or "Right and Wrong!" if it can be put down to that

sounds its a no go for a landlord to disconnect gas to a property,these programmers/timers that can be set to warn a tenant when over a service visit.
do they work ?.
although if a landlord has made reasonable attempts to carry out their duties and no help from tenants,seems that a disconnection would be harassment.

johnfox the timers that limit use do work, some are straight forward and cut the power off at a pre determind date, but is the same as cutting off gas and by some definitions could be harassment, vokera to name one i have used have one that will cut off the electrical supply to boiler but can be overridden for 2hrs, then off for 2hrs then can be put back on again to get someone some heat without giving them hypothermia etc but hopefully the nuisance factor will lead them to phone in for the service reset of the timer, there are others that do similar functions

I've got a Danfoss timer sitting on my desk. Offers h/hw for 15 minutes of every hour after the service date expires.

28 days before service is due, it will buzz for 30 secs and display a visual warning at a predetermined time. Once service date is reached, it will sound for the first minute of every hour until the audible alarm is cancelled by pressing a button.

We haven't had to install one yet, but I've got my eye on one wee nuisance and if we have to go to court to gain access, she will get one.

ok,thanks the programmer/clock can disable the heating/hot water,but what about the appliances installed by the tenants ie range type cookers on half inch pipe,other cooking appliances could be a commerical type appliance. and gas fires usually flame effect.
seems a landlord needs to be multi lingual in communcations with tenants.
