"Boris Johnson is paid a staggering amount. Despite this, the Prime Minister reportedly told a friend he couldn’t live on his salary because of "extensive family responsibilities.” The former mayor of London has faced numerous allegations of sleaze particularly around the funds he accepted to refurbish his Downing Street flat. So just how much does the British prime minister earn?
From 2021 to 2022 Boris Johnson can claim a salary of £79,936 for his role as Prime Minister. He has said we will claim £75,440 of it.
This wage is added to his salary as MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip, which is £81,932, and means he will be paid £157,372 from 2021 to 2022.
He also receives income from other sources. Between October 2020 to October 2021 he declared an additional income of £10,365 from publishers, as he continues to generate an income from his various books.
He has published a range of works from biographies about Churchill to his own novels such as “Seventy-Two Virgins – A Comedy of Errors,” which he still receives royalties from.
On top of his salary, Mr Johnson receives some generous expenses to cover his living costs.
He doesn’t have to pay a penny in rent for the flat about Downing Street and he also has free use of a huge country house - Chequers in Buckinghamshire.
He will have to pay some tax on the bills paid for his residences, such as heating, lighting and repairs, but that is capped at 10 percent of his ministerial salary. This means he won’t pay more than about £8,000 annually.
If the decor in his Downing Street flat isn’t up to scratch then the PM can claim an additional allowance of up to £30,000 a year for any refurbishment - although famously Mr Johnson and his wife Carrie were embroiled in a scandal recently, as they accepted undeclared additional funds to update their home from a Tory donor.
Mr Johnson owns various properties which according to the BBC generate a rental income of at least £10,000 annually. The PM owns a property in Oxfordshire, 50 percent of a home in London and 20 percent of a home in Somerset.

It is well known that many MPs and ministers continue to have lucrative side jobs while in office and Mr Johnson is no exception.
Before becoming PM, Mr Johnson continued to have additional jobs while he was an MP.
He earned a staggering £275,000 a year from his Daily Telegraph column.
Between July 2018 and July 2019 he was paid a whopping £22,916.66 a month by The Daily Telegraph, which he admitted occupied him for just ten hours a month.
His public speaking engagements alone saw him roll in hundreds of thousands of pounds a year.
On March 2, 2019, he charged £122,899.74 for a speech to India Today.
For speaking to Dublin-based Pendulum Events and Training on January 10, 2019 he earned £51,250.
And for a speech addressed to the Swiss Economic Forum on May 24, 2019 he earned £42,580.

Sounds like driving the thing is no biggie, it's doing the shifts, and tolerating the politics like most jobs, while believing other jobs are easier.
Also sounds like a Robot could do it well, with not much more technology applied.

This is a curious question to know simply, how hard is it to drive a train? I have not put this in the 'Careers' section because I am asking this purely as an enthusiast. You hear a lot people (who aren't drivers or for that matter even working in the Railways) saying its easy and not that...

Sounds like driving the thing is no biggie, it's doing the shifts, and tolerating the politics like most jobs, while believing other jobs are easier.
Also sounds like a Robot could do it well, with not much more technology applied.

Ive recently done some work with caf rail and they have been forced by the unions to remove most of the automation within the controls of the cab (apparently with a few simple upgrades to the network trains could easily be fully automated), and remove the cameras and screens for the carriages from the cab on order to protect people's jobs (with the cameras and screens on the carriages they wouldn't have a need for conductors), for which they now say require a large pay in rease when they are already paid very well for what they do.Informative thread on driving a train:

Train drivers Jobs are so boring they had to install a peddle for which the driver must press every 30 seconds to let the train controls know they havnt fallen asleep or had heart attack etc.
That being said I don't believe we should replace humans with machines, I don't like supermarket self service checkouts etc, and that every is entitled to have a job

A striking rail worker said it's not about the money; even if they were offered a 50% rise in pay they'd still be out (brothers, out!) if the deal included the same terms and conditions insisted upon by Rail bosses. Those terms will lead to reductions in staff and none of them are prepared to accept a deal for more money if it means losing jobs.
Automation is almost a certainty at some point in the future: driverless cabs are prevelent in some American cities; prototype lorries are being developed and the new fighter being designed for the RAF practically flies itself, reducing the pilot to a systems monitor, only responsible for take-off and landing. They've even developed an automated noodle maker for Tokyo snack bars, for Zark's sake! No chef required.
As all these jobs become automated what are people supposed to do? Become poets?

Sure, why not? The noodles become easier to afford because you don't now have to pay someone X0,000s of pounds a year to make them
The world didn't always have money, but I accept it's hard to see how it would now work without it , given that it's become such a pivotal part of regulating human behaviour

I'm not a member of any political party I think they are all cr@p, because the job attracts the wrong people (professional politicians). I have no party line to toe. I vote for the least damaging. If I thought that was labour, they'd get my vote. It isn't so they wont. Hating people who are better off, doesn't help fixing the problem.
